Finally! Good visionary, but no clue how to run a maturing airline.

:pimp:

He's not gone, he's Chairman of the Board. Just like Herb Kelleher at Southwest. While he won't be in charge of the day to day operations, he's still going to be highly involved.

(Not that I disagree entirely with your assessment of his skills...)

Don't kid yourself. He's a figurehead at this point. Barger will have the final say on everything.

Next step is private equity, and they will send Neeleman out the door from the chairmans seat.

I guess this puts to rest the rumor of Dave B. leaving B6. I have not been at B6 long enough to be able to decide if this is a good thing or not. But I will say that most of the guys I have flown with feel this is exactly what needed to happen. In a nut shell, one guy is the dreamer and the other is the guy who actually makes it happen. I guess David N. can go and start making coal into oil now.

Both are great people, very smart and know exactly what they are doing in their capacity. Having said that, DN did a great job getting this place started, having the vision to create an airline that put the customers first and treated the crewmembers right. In the past 2 years, that has started to fade. Customer service is not quite what is was when I started here and the treatement of the crewmembers has started to slip a bit as well. I think this is a great move and should really re-energize the airline. DN will serve an important role in that he will still have the creative input and be able to throw great ideas on the table. DB though will have control of our airline and the future if JB, and I am very excited about that. He is a level headed thinker with the best interest of both the crewmembers and customers in mind. He is also surrounding himself with some good new people who have ideas. For example, the same day this is announced, it is reported that JB is looking to expand growth in the west....conincidence or just a new way of thinking of growth for the company. I believe the latter.

I heard of he 44 daily flights out of sfo by the end of the year and the 190 going west, is that the "report" you are refering to? is it official or just rumor?

How did Barger do during the Valentine's meltdown? A JB friend of mine claims he was seen wandering around the JFK terminal aimlessly (helpless)... Is this move a precursor to a buyout?

At least General Chow (former ATC failure) will help lead the troops... Let's hope for warm weather and no freezing rain in the next few months. ;)

Well there goes the profit margins on the SFO market. Between you guys and SWA, there is going to be another blood bath there.

During the Valentines Day IROP, Dave Barger was stuck in FLL. He conducted a previously scheduled pilot meeting in order to make the best of the time and to stick to his committment to communicate with the pilots after the bizarre Pilot Compensation Group report. Yes, he had to duck out a couple of times to check on things, but there was really nothing more he coud do from the field.

I think this move is one of the smarter strategic moves JB has undertaken. David Neeleman is a great entrepreneur, but he needs to let others handle the nuts and bolts of the operation. Wallstreet is going to love Barger.

Not true. He was in FLL for a pocket session (crewmember meeting) He came back up in the middle of things to find a mess. He was in the terminal walking around, pissed at that, trying to figure out what the heck was going on. By the time he got there decisions were already made without him and he was doing his best to comfort the customers and get things back on track. He is a great guy and good at what he does. As for a buyout, I doubt it. The delta rumor is not true and was squashed when they announced pouring money into their terminal yesterday and not buying us for ours. I think this will be a HUGE turnaround for us and should get the troops going again. Great news as far as I am concerned.

Ahh AKAAB...beat me to it :-)

How are you?

SHhhhhhhhhhh...be vewy vewy quite.

As for the report.... LINK

I think this is the first step towards a Delta Buy-out. I was under the impression that when the Merger and Acquisition language came out on the new contracts, it would be a 5 year Severance to act as a deterrant to anyone buying JBLU. This 1 year severance is a drop in the bucket. It would be around $150 million to pay all the pilots to go away. Not much in the overall scheme of things.

On the bright side, if a buyout happens, you could see the stock price go to $25 pretty quick. Getting 100% vested right away is going to be sweet as far as the options go for us new guys.

Just my opinion...it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong about something!

That's what I was referring to. My buddy there was not so impressed with his ability to keep his calm. Sure, it was very stressful.

I understand that is your opinion...but the DELTA thing was a bad rumor...period. I dont know why people get off on keeping it going. They just poured a ton of money into their LA operation and their JFK terminal. Besides the DOJ approval and legal lumps involved, it would not be good for delta to buy us. Same as you stated, its my opinion but I am very sure that the delta rumor was just that, a rumor. Now, the idea of a private equity deal is not out of the realm of possiblitiy.

I would be pissed as well if I came back to see that decisions were made about the airline without consulting ALL the execs.

Dude... I thought you swore off the boards. ;)

Nice to see you back as well. Haven't missed much except a p*ssing match over the UAir integration, deafening silence from the AAI/MidEx merger/acquisition, and people still P.O.'d about Skybus. :D

p.s. How did you like the eBay auction of the pilot for sale?

was that you that sent me that? I reported it as someone sending me spam....sorry if it was you. I bought the pilot for only 3 dollars. He was a GIA guy and insited that he pay me!!

jk guys

as for the boards....dont post here that much anymore, just when something big happens.

GIA... *snicker* ;) So you have a lawn boy now? What are you giving him his 50 hours a month in? Or are you cashing in some of those options to buy a 152?

That's OK, eBay didn't say anything, so I guess it's kind of a "repeat offender" deal and I only sent it to you, got it off the "other" board.

Will try to call you later,,,

I heard Barger was reading a story to a grammar school class when he got the news. He was informed by his security detail and his handlers decided that FLL was a much safer place to drink Pina Coladas.

I am demanding an investigation at the next Open Haus / Town Hall Meeting / Pocket Session / recurrent.

More rumors to follow.

At least they didn't name Grinstein as our new CEO.

This is Very, very good news for all of us at Jetblue. DN is a visionary, not an ops guy. DB is the latter and is as personable a guy you could ever meet. Many people were worried that he would just outright leave after the hiring of Chew. I am very impressed with the leadership moves they have made since Feb 14.

Delta isnt happening, but maybe Frontier will!

At least he was smart enough to turn the everyday operations over to someone who was qualified.

Private equity is on the horizon. They will wait till the stock gets down to six or seven before pulling the trigger. DB's performance in the next 12 months will be closely scrutinized. If the operation doesn't show improvement, look for Russ Chew to take over once PE consumates the deal.

Chew was a line qualified Captain at AA on the 767 with undergraduate at Stanford and Doctorate at USC, before being appointed to COO at the FAA.

Yeah, 'cause THAT'S a great idea... merge with a company continuously in the red for a while now while having cash issues of your own.

'Blue has a great product and needs to concentrate on slowly growing their own house, not jump into bed with someone.

The new announcement of West Coast expansion sounds like the beginnings of a good game plan.

This certainly isn't the beginning of the end, but rather the end of the beginning for JBLU.

This is probably a smart move on the part of JBLU. Time will tell if Barger has what it takes to meet the challenges ahead.

Barger will be under a lot of pressure to improve the bottom line, with DN gone DB will be able to do what would have been unthinkable to DN...I predict that Barger will activate those credit card slots next to the TV screens and start charging for the in flight entertainment.

B6 pilots enjoy some pretty sweet duty rigs, I'm sure Chew is looking into those...despite the recent pay increases I believe that changes are still ahead to the pilots working agreement.
