theo, you do have valid points about the branded flying. When I first heard the plan I was just as sceptical as you. History and basic statistics show that you cannot make money flying 50 seat jets at low fare prices. 50 seat jets were very profitable when fuel prices were low, now that prices have sky-rocketed the 50 seaters are on their way out. The 145 burns about 2400 lbs/hr at fl370 while the 737ng burns about 4000-4500 lbs/hr (correct me if im wrong) at the same altitude plus you have an extra 100 seats on the 73, the basic numbers show that we cannot compete with SWA head to head unless pax are willing to pay extra to fly us which as we the the public usually goes with the cheapest.

The 737-800 burns roughly 6000lbs per hour in the 30's.

The management here at XJT have some big balls and brains to do this, which is what you need to make it in this industry. The same was said about Herb & Co. back in the day...

So we should not compare ExpressJet to FLYi, but it's ok to compare ExpressJet to Southwest?

Sorry fellas, just not buying it. Sounds an awful lot like Independence Air all over again to me.

Good luck though.

Other than 50 seat aircraft how is this like FLYi????

1. We do not operate out of our former employers hubs (CLE, EWR, IAH)

2. We are not flying out of a hub competing with our former employer who is in bankruptcy.

3. We are not flying out of a major hub period.

This is not the FLYi business model. It doesn't mean it will work but quite making that stupid comparison.

Sorry but most of you who are in your early twenties don't know sh!t about the airline business. You were how old when 9/11 happened? Do you even remember any previous recessions like in the early 90's when you were in 4th grade?

Research the FLYi business model and compare it to the current XJT plan, its apples and oranges. I never compared the XJT to SWA, only the fact that no one thought SWA would succeed with their initial plan.

This is starting to remind me of pax saying we shouldn't be delayed due to weather if it's sunny outside. A lot of ppl stating opinions about things they know nothing about.

Um...dollar beers....free beers....dollar beers....FREE BEERS. Altho what up with the sno cap? Must have found a couple of cases hiding in the back of JP's car. I'm biased, so I'm leaning towards Horizon cuz of FREE BEERS!!! What kinda food you got? I'll trade a Sno Plow, or a Broken Halo 22 oz for your peanut butter and jelly....PSYCH!!!

I assume your post is in good humor here. I have two friends who are QX F/O's right now. I taught at HIO and have no ill will towards QX. I've flown on them several times and loved every trip. All I was saying was that our two products are different. Try jumpseating on us and you will see. The flights are over-catered so when you sit in the back you'll get fed. Once you fly on us, why don't you report back to us here with a real, honest comparison.

You've obviously never had an FA slip you one of those big Black Bute magnums as you're leaving the Dash.

Regarding fuel costs...we XJetters now have on our release for each city we go to the cost of fuel for CAL, XJT, and DAL. I've been to a few cities that have CAL and XJT branded service and so far, we always have to pay less for fuel than CAL pays. I haven't seen any Delta numbers yet...but an example is Tulsa where CAL pays I think $2.23 or something close and we pay $2.01 ish. 22 cents a gallon several flights a day saves a lot of money. Hopefully we have those kinds of deals in the focus cities like ONT and SAT.

Bump.

How have things been going lately? I talked to an FO that's waiting on IOE and he said that there have only been about 30% load factors. Is he correct?

Best of luck guys...

It depends on the flight. They are all different. I dont know the overall load factor but many many flights are close to full if not full. Sure there are some light loads but that is to be expected since we just started this venture a couple months ago.

Not sure how someone waiting for IOE would have any real idea what the load factors are.... I can tell you a good number of our flights are full or near full...

Why is ExpressJet still in the 'regional' part of this website? I would think we'd qualify for posts in the nationals section....Those 4 hour legs from OKC-SAN sure don't feel 'regional' to me! And we are not someone's b'%$h!

And, load factors for me at least are nearly always above 30 no matter whre we are headed. I've also seen a few sold to 50-54...

Technically, XJT is a major by DOT categorization. As for this board, maybe if the majority of the airplanes didn't still have "Express" or "Connection" painted on the side...

people get pissy if we post exact loads, but looking at them the last few days, I see more flights with 30 or more people vs. flights with less then 30 people. seems to be steadily going up.... and still pretty new.... who the hell is expressjet? :)

I've worked more flights with <30 people than >30 people this month. Seems everytime I'm around the gate I'm always asked questions about where we go from that city and how much the tickets are. I did a lot of midwest trips last week, with the wx and cancelations majors were rebooking thier pax on us. A lot of happy folks getting off the planes. Havn't heard a small plane joke yet.
