Just heard that Compass has just passed its Tabletop with the Feds, proving runs are next, should start next week.

I think the point is mainline pilots flying RJ's for rates less than existing RJ operators while displacing other ALPA members who were performing identical flying.

Frank Lorenzo is probably angry that ALPA thought of a better way to screw its members than he could think up when he was running Eastern.

So, the plan is shrink the mainline by getting rid of planes, and then just rehire the same guys at Mecompassinnacleba at low low low prices?

Tell me again why I got into this business. . .

Really?

Name one.

There are no mainline pilots at Compass.

Pesky things, those facts...

Are there any non management pilots at Compass yet? You a management pilot? Kind of sound like one....

Ouch!

Get caught with your facts out-of-whack, and you get a bit testy, eh?

You posted this: "I think the point is mainline pilots flying RJ's for rates less than existing RJ operators while displacing other ALPA members who were performing identical flying."

The context was Compass.

Now, name a mainline pilot that's flying at Compass.

(Hint: The total number rhymes with "Nero")

Investment bankers are chomping at the bit. I'm guessing NWA's next spinoff will be within two years.

I think you are spot on. Compass and Mesaba will be sold within a couple of years to generate $$. That plan hasn't been a very well-kept secret.

There are probably a couple of things that could scuttle that plan, but I think you're prediction is accurate.

Occam,
The Compass agreement is a mainline agreement. That flying could have been given to Mesaba and Pinnacle if ALPA really cared about "brand scope". However since "brand scope" is nothing but lip service, we now have Compass....

Why didn't the NWA MEC agree to the Compass flying going to Mesaba and Pinnacle? Isn't that how "brand scope" is supposed to work????

I believe there are as many pilots, (of any kind) flying for Compass Airlines, as pilots flying at DrewBlows Airlines. Kind of makes your question moot. (Notice proper use of the word "moot.")

1. Kudos on the proper use of moot! You may procreate.
2. I agree with your math.
3. The point of the question was to illustrate this: No NWA mainline pilots have, or will, go to Compass. Our contract gives our furloughed pilots first crack at the jobs there, but it's also apparent that NWA will be recalling all of them to the mainline soon.
4. "DrewBlows" is funny! Keep it up!

3. Couldn't those jobs have been put at Mesaba and Pinnacle? Wouldn't that have been more in keeping with ALPA's "brand scope"? Why create yet another alter-ego carrier to compete in the portfolio?

Correct.

That flying could have been given to Mesaba and Pinnacle if ALPA really cared about "brand scope".

S'pose. But that wasn't the terms of the deal, was it? Apparently, pilot groups working for airlines in bankruptcy don't always get the exact terms they want. I think it's safe to conclude that bankruptcy is a bad thing for Labor under the current laws. What do you think?

However since "brand scope" is nothing but lip service, we now have Compass....

1 . YOU don't have squat! I have Compass. It is my issue, and as a Northwest pilot, I am accountable for Compass existing. If it bothers you, I hope you get over it soon.
2. Brand Scope is a function of priorities. Personally, I think it's important, but would put it after a few other important items in my contract.
