It is interesting to see JetBlue and Airtran guys make the jump... would you guys leave JetBlue or Airtran to go to Continental?

Oyster(kaki),

they did leave those companies, so would I, if I had the offer.

sorry dude, was that a question?

There are a lot of reasons to leave AirTran or JetBlue for Continental. More variety of aircraft, international, the domiciles, pay(?), work rules(?), company culture. Even with the age change to 65, it may be advantageous to make the jump to Continental for seniority reasons.

I'm with AirTran and I'm staying put but that's just me.

Damn Not 1 Single Pinnacle Alum....what up wit that!!
With all the upgrading going on I thought I would see at least 1.

I was considering such a move, that is why I'm asking what you guys think. The only thing that scares me is what happens when UAL (or any other major) merges or buys CAL.

Was the USAF hire guard or reserve? I know there are quite a few high time guys with captain's endorsements who are not getting phone calls...

just curious

Under most circumstances, no. If I had less than two years or so at AT or JB and it would make life easier i.e. commuting, then yes. I know one of the AT guys on that list, and that was the case exactly for him. It was a quality of life decision.

Seriously...id hope people at the majors dont care about this ....kind of a 'kiddie table' issue isnt it?

just curious

Nothing "kiddie" about it. Anyone who is willing to throw their own brothers and sisters under the bus for quicker upgrade and more pay (but still horrible pay nonetheless) at their regional will have no problems doing the same thing to their own at a major. If Continental goes on strike at some point, this guy will probably be the first to cross the picket line for his chance at the left seat.

Is it "kiddie" that someone will crush your quality of life to better their own? Not hardly...

I haven't seen too many JetBlue guys until recently. When I interviewed at CAL in Oct. 95 they asked me if I had applied to JetBlue because CAL had lost a few pilots to them. Times change I guess.

There has always been a steady stream of AirTran pilots though.

Not completely true.

I was dh'ing home and was talking with a couple of TransMeridian pilots. They were about to be furloughed, b/c TM was about to close it's doors. They were both previous TWA. Both had extensive experience, but were about to lose their jobs. One mentioned a upcoming interview w/ GoJets as a street CA. He wasnt exactly happy about it, in fact, i would say he looked borderline depressed. How can you judge this guy for trying to keep food on the table?

Will he cross a picketline, i dont know. But not everyone who went to GoJets is a SJS 500 hr wonderpilot.

Flame on.

smart response!

Best of luck and congrats to all those hired at CAL!

Jetblue? 1995? Was JBLU hiring future check airmen or something?

Anybody have the break down of equipment and domiciles?

Uniform,

I thought it took you ten years to hear if you were hire!!!

Can you believe that 10 years ago we were working at TWA. Insane!!!

Now I'm a Married, father of two, broke major airline pilot on second year pay. The progression is exactly what I expected.

Being more expeirienced pilot does not make it right. They got screwed and screwed another pilot in return. I do feel bad for them, but you can't use your misfortune to justify screwing someone else. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Interesting hiring numbers. I was DHing on CAL about a month ago and reading the magazine in the back of the seat, and there was an article from the CEO talking about the appreciation of all of the military pilots at CAL and those that were deployed. He made a HUGE point about how over 50 percent of all CAL pilots were prior military and that they drew from military.

Not getting into the well beaten mil vs civ background here, but the contrast between the CEO's article and the hiring backgrounds listed here is very interesting.

Also....let's not get down on the GoJets guy. Is flying an airbus for $65/hr any worse than flying an RJ for $19/hr...I think not.....

We all need to demand a minimum wage for pilots.....no FO flies for less than the lowest paid full time TSA agent checking your bags.

My rant is over, although I'd be interested if someone at CAL could get ahold of that article which was in your December in-flight magazine and post it here
