Those executives are soooooo smart. Maybe passenger airlines should try this.

{UPS FUEL CHARGE}
Feeling the pinch at the pumps, UPS and FedEx this week boosted
add-on fees for packages delivered by ground to 3.75% of the
shipping rate from the previous 3.5% FedEx also reportedly raised
its U.S. air-shipment fuel surcharge to 13.5% of the shipping
rate, up from 12%. That impacts an estimated 19 million shipments
a day and consumers pay an extra $2 on each air delivery and
about 25% on ground items because of fuel surcharges by both
UPS and FedEx.

All that loot and SWA still pays better than UPS or a FedEX 727 pilot. You guys need to get on management about that. They pass the cost on to the customer, then keep it for themselves.

Not working out entirely as planned for the cargo side of the airlines.

Exactly - it is the pax companies' cargo side that is primarily being investigated. As quouted from the article, companies like UPS and FedEx are not accused of any anti-competitive behavior.

The main point here is that the pax airlines have to charge the cost of their product, instead of undercutting each other for market share; stop going after labor to make up the difference on the balance sheet. Market share doesn't mean squat if you continually lose money.

Canyonblue, you are absolutely correct is this statement. I can only hope that our union is working towards fixing this chasm in pay. We all deserve to be paid what we are worth.

So airlines fix might be fixing prices and their offices get raided, but oil companies post multi billion dollar quarterly profits and nothing happens? Hmmmmmm?..............riiiiiiiight!

Canyon,

Not another "mine is bigger thread" ... puhleeeez.

Chew on this if you like though ... unlike SWA's CEO, there's been no mention of pilot pay CUTS by UPS's CEO.

BBB

UPS has the highest paid 727 captains in the world (or if not, close), and FedEx pilots have the Bus and MDs to move up to if they want a bigger W2. Southwest has only the 737, and a payrate for it commisurate with the expectations of a senior pilot group.

One's not better than the other, just different...
