My only rationale of acceptance for the reduction in growth is at least Mr. Kelly is managing the airline instead of blindly growing for the sake of growth.

Make no mistake, the future must be getting at least somewhat cloudy or they wouldn't cut 6% of our schedule. I certainly wouldn't say we're in as bad a shape as some of you are hoping but I just can't positively spin negative growth.

The bright side of this coin is we're not furloughing and we gave 500 guys a job this year. Plus this place is still a kick in the pants.

McDonald's quit selling the McRib because of lack of interest. Does that make them a sh!tty company or a smart company who knows when to trim the fat?
Our McRibs are out the door, but I am sure that combo meals 1-5 will pay the bills until another slam dunk is whipped up.
The scary part is that a Whataburger could be right around the corner. Then it's Taquito time!!
No matter how much you like Whataburger, McDonalds is well known, has brand equity, and you'll always know what you get when you walk thru the door. If ya ain't changing, the world will pass you by.

Speaking of McDonalds, maybe you can send "say again" over there, his job as a walmart greeter is in jeopardy.:laugh:

Like someone else said earlier...if SWA is cutting back then what does that say about the rest of the industry? SWA trims 6% of their schedule and guys at other carriers are celebrating. That makes no sense to me. If SWA is reducing their schedule by 6% then UAL must be reducing theirs by at least 15%...wait they already announced that.
Honestly, it is scary and it should worry everyone...especially those few that love to bash SWA and find themselves in places like DAL, UAL, USAirways, etc, etc, etc. If it looks bad for us, then it must look rotten for you. Becareful what you wish for, SWA doing bad means everyone else is barely alive.

Hey all...my buddy told me the guy who runs the training department in Dallas said that there's no more classes after the LONE Sept class.

He also said that they were "overmanned for the winter schedule."

We are being told that this reduction will be short in nature...ie the March schedule should include more flights. Not so sure all 4% of the reduction will be re-introduced in March..but at least the plan is to get things moving again. All hiring stops...for now...after the 2 classes (tankerclown) in September.

Sorry that all those who were hoping for the imminent demise of SWA (aa767av8tor) will have to wait a bit longer.

Perhaps you didn’t understand my post. I never said anything about the demise of LUV. I pointed out how SWAPA’s support of Age 65 is now coming back to bit the lower half of your seniority group. Kelly is alluding publicly to zero growth for 2009. Your union’s support of Age 65 was very shortsighted and selfish and has hurt a great many in our profession.

Age 65 also helps set the stage for a more seamless assimilation to international cabotage. What's your plan to compete against a Lan Chile pilot that could be flying point to point across the U.S. in a few years that is making ½ of your pay check?

It’s no secret that LUV’s most advantageous fuel hedges are flaming out over the next 2-3 years. It’s also no secret that LUV will face some great challenges over the next few years. Your prices have nowhere to go but up over the next three years thus affecting a great many of your most price conscious customers who will choose to simply stay home.

For a group that supposedly has been in the driver’s seat for the last two decades, your union has accomplished very little for the rest of the profession. Instead of bringing some meaningful and constructive improvement to our industry, SWAPA was a main driver of one of the most destructive rules since B-scale. Congratulations.
