If you don't like taxes, TN has no income tax and the fees are much lower than Florida. If you like the mountains, it's nice. If you like the beach, there are lakes. If you like the ocean, you are SOL.

And as the great Lewis Grizzard once said, if Yankees don't like the way we do things here, Delta is ready when you are.

How do we turn the south into NY?? Gimme some examples.

I'd say that it is mostly a result of liberal influences in the federal government. Gun control laws, creating a welfare state, running religion out of the public square, interfering with the governing of our states.
We can't pass voter ID laws or execute criminals without federal courts getting involved.

A lasting effect of the loss of the War Against Northern Aggression was to create a strong central government that is still usurping power from the states.

Isn't the Civil War over?

Gun control laws, creating a welfare state, running religion out of the public square -As it should be, separate from the state. That's not a bad thing, it's what the founders intended. But not in the south, they have trouble separating church and state and their anti-black (have you been there?), pro-violence (guns and execution), and pro-ten commandments in public courts (1st century mythology) mindset is preventing them from true progress.- , interfering with the governing of our states.

I'm just saying...

I'm just saying...

Dude! Who are you? Spike Lee?! Black folks have it better than white folks in the South today. When was your last visit, 1955? This is the New South, and things have indeed changed. Some for the better, and some not. Get with the times! Hey, we even got cable and watch Opra with it! Geez!

Skanza,
You obviously have NOT read the U.S. Constitution. Nowhere does the term "separation of church and state" even exist in the document. However, it IS full of direct references to God from the preamble all the way through. What it DOES imply is that the state (the gov't) may not declare a national religion (such as there is in the middle east---Islam: convert to another religion and it is punishible by death and yes, they do carry it out), nor pass a law in respect to said religion (such as make it a law to wear the Star of David, a cross or whatever).
Like so many of your liberal cohorts you take a term and run away with it, trying to sound educated and informed, but have no idea what you are talking about.
Allow me to give you the same logic you have about porno when it comes to religion...if you don't like it, don't do it. Shoe is on the other foot now.
That is all.

From the soapbox

Oh and while I'm at it, if you want your separation of church and state...how about keeping the state out of our churches? Try reading "The Criminalization of Christianity" by Janet Folger, if you can get through a book with no pictures.
