When does CAL hiring start again?

Does anyone know when is the next class?

And if my friend has an interview next week any idea when his class might start?

Thanks.

Hiring has already started in Early August

Hiring is supposed to have started this month. Approx. 60 a month til next summer with 500 to be hired. This cycle is supposed to countinue for the next couple of years at least.

A new class starts on the 12th of Sept. Don't know about any others.

Congrats Jet Jockey, if you don't mind me asking, where did you come from? Do you have lots of PIC time, and how many recommendations did you have. Thanks

You don't need any PIC at CAL. I know 4 new hires who don't even have ATP's. You must however be WELL connected. Line pilot reco's does not = well connected. Look for training center and Smith Street folks and you can get an interview. After the interview, you have about an 80% chance of getting the job.

I think you meant no TURBINE PIC Time....

Pilot Positions
Thank you for your interest in joining the Continental team. Continental anticipates the need to hire a significant number of pilots during the second half of 2006.
The following are the minimum qualifications to apply for a pilot position:
  • 1,500 hours fixed-wing total flight time
  • 1,000 hours fixed-wing PIC time, or 500 hours PIC time and 500 hours SIC time in a turbojet
  • 1,000 hours fixed-wing turbine time
  • 1,000 hours fixed-wing multi-engine time (civilian or military) or 1,000 hours single-engine military fighter jet time
  • A current ATP written exam
  • A current first class FAA medical
  • A current passport
  • A Bachelor's degree is highly desired

Congrats!

Would you mind posting the Base/Equipment assignments after you start? Enquiring minds want to know!

Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

B. Franklin

We have classes running (about) every week. Although things may seem quiet externally, it is going double time in Houston, Seattle, Miami and Dallas where we are often renting additional sim time. You can get an interview with a referral from a line pilot and they are taken very seriously. Any connections you can make with a Continental team member can assist you greatly in your networking efforts. Our internal referral process is fantastic but with the number of resumes on file and referrals in it can take some time. Keep updating online and make any effort to meet Continental folks. Interviews are done at all bases CLE,EWR and IAH. If you get an interview go up and meet the flight crew they may just be a person from the training center or HQS. Good luck--- this is a great place to be.

I'll let everybody know bases/AC ASAP. I know all too well the waiting and hoping. As far as my flight time I have PIC 121, about 3200 prop&jet. However, it's all about who you know. I had three letters from line pilots for 1 year, but it took an executive to push me over. Once you get the interview, you have the job, REALLY, unless you tell them not to hire you. They consider you already part of the team. My interview process was extremely pleasant, and they must've said 20 times: relax, you made here already, so just be yourself and you'll be fine.

You say 121 PIC, but I'm wondering if your flight time had anything to do, or just the letters and an executive? Were you at a regional, or a major, furloughed etc.

I'm trying to figure out the quaility of time to get in the early group of hires??
I have a good friend I'm trying to get info too. Thanks
Where did you come from?

Yes I come from a regional, with 4 types. However, you are right, my time means nothing, without letters and then some. It is all about somebody pushing you to the front of the line. I know it can be frustating, been there since April 05. But now it feels even better to know that I've got it.

If you have a friend in the inside tell him/her to drop a line to KD, he's the man.

I didn't know anyone but line pilots. None of them Captains. Just be persistent. I made two visits to Continental Chiefs myself. 9 online recs, two guys walked my resume in, and I had a third standing by, but got the call before he had the chance. Just keep at it!

* This is a tentative list of new hire classes for pilots as known on August 15. As always with the company, subject to change at a moments notice.

I'd guess anywhere from 8-16 per class...but that's just my personal guess.

yes that IS impressive.......good news!

Offical word today at the EWR LEC meeting is 36 for SEP and then 60 month until April 07.

$.05 says they are at the upper end of the class size. We have a lot of slots to fill.

14 classes
8 people =112
16 people =224

Plus the 2 classes in Aug. Possilbly 240 newbies by then end of the year.

Keep them comming!

Anybody know how many are in line to get called ? And how one could find out where they are in that group?

That information is not easily accessible. From my understanding there is a very extensive process internally. Best advice is to keep updating regularily, and stay in contact with folks internally and or make every effort to meet Continental co-workers, even jumpseat do whatever you can to meet folks. If you have an internal referral they are your best point of contact to find additional information.

I had to work. What was said about the Medium size jet issue?

I'm curious of this as well... I can't believe this would even be an issue... They can get all the 170/190s they want. There is NOTHING stopping them.

As far as the call list goes, the pilot who gets you on the list can check back in with his/her chief pilot at anytime to see where you are on the list. I know the EWR CP's office is doing 6 interviews a week for the forseeable future.

A friend of mine is in the Sept 26th class ( I think its the 26 because most classes begin on tuesdays for some reason) So I would guess people interviewing now are looking at early october class dates.

Openings are on all aircraft (yes the 777 too) even though I dont see any new hires going to the 777 anytime soon. Expect to get EWR, there might be a few IAH slots open but I wouldnt count on it.
