WestJet probably noticed that SWA didn't trust their pilots to fly INTL flights, so they went looking for an airline with pilots that had plenty of INTL experience. It makes sense. Also, codesharing to places like LBB, MAF, ISP, and ELP just wouldn't make Westjet any real money.

As I've said before...... You REALLY need some new shtick!

You have what, like 14k posts, and I'll bet the vast majority of them mention WN and flying in TX. Are those great international layover THAT boring? How much did DAL lose last year?

We are a domestic carrier, a lot like DAL used to be. I turned down DAL to stay here in 98, and not only don't I not regret it, I wake up and thank the stars I didn't jump ship and go over to DAL! I'd be making a fraction of what I make now, furlough(s), commuting, with a far worse QOL. I'll take the once or twice a year LBB layover, get home the same night and enjoy my life away from work.

Sorry GL, you (and the PFT guy) didn't get hired by WN. You really need to get over it.

The good news is that you can now use antidepressants and still fly! After a few weeks on the happy pills, maybe you'll be able to post without putting LBB, ISP, MAF etc. in them! Or better yet, you'll find a more positive and satisfying hobby than posting the same thing, day in/day out/year in year out.

As long as they stay away from low cost model and treating their passengers like cattle - why not?

More dots on the map - more stable future.

I bet they took a look at southwests shabby maint records and said no way.

But just think, Canada gives new territory open to Southwest to throw pizza parties for a whole slew of new Controllers and Canadian FAA types. That sure is nice of them. High Speed APPROVED!

Gotta stick with whatever works!

Westjet and Delta equal more outsourcing of Delta jobs to someone else. Why can't Delta expand its own flying by buying more airframes ?

Your type are the problem child of DAL. Why cant you and your type be like the general and be happy as DAL contracts out all the flying. :)

PS. General, it is Reverse High Speed Approved, get it right. :)

How many pilots are NOT on the Delta seniority list because of all the RJ's flying around?

How many billions of dollars lost in Delta pilots salaries by outsourcing everything?

I'll take Lubbock and Midland any day.

The gaps are closing. Not only is DL parking 50 seaters, but also taking on past 70 seat routes with DC9s now (ATL--GRR, FNT, DAY, etc). When the new FAA rules eventually come out resticting high speed overnights (or naps) and increasing the hiring requirements (1500 hours), the regionals will become more expensive, and again get smaller.

As far as code share outsourcing, that is a problem too. But, you have to see what benefits could result. Westjet flies a lot of intra-canada flying (they want 50% of the total Canada domestic flying), and very little INTL flying (largest plane is 738---they do fly them to Caribbean, Hawaii, and Mexico---places SWA doesn't go). They could fly people from Toronto to JFK (eventually), and they could transfer pax to fly south (S America) or even to Europe instead of Air Canada from YYZ. I don't know if DL wants to go to every Canadian city, but through MSP DL already goes to quite a few. Maybe there is more revenue to tap there, but with a couple flights a day to MSP, it might be better for them to help out with a 737 or two. Dalpa would have to look this over and make sure there are assurances, since they have the right to say NO to a code-share.

And as far as LBB, MAF, AMA, and ELP go, it is still not worth it. No thanks.

DELTA Pilots = Love Codeshares?
Southwest Pilots = Hate Codeshares!!!!

jetblue pilots=Have no say in the matter!

Hmm, jetblue and westjet, yeah, that could work!

We don't love codeshares, we analyze them and decide if it is in our best interests. We have the ability to say NO. You guys can't say that, and will be best buddies with Volaris soon since your own management doesn't trust you flying outside of the contiguous 48 states. But, they do approve of West Texas flying for you-----enjoy!

Bye Bye---General Lee

Trust me bro. You can HAVE Volaris. You won't find very many, if any, SWA pilots ready to codeshare with Volaris.

Gup

Delta Pilots= Didn't pay for training.
Southwest Pilots= Pay for training!!!!!!!!!!

Just judging by the idiots on here, southwest will take anyone with a checkbook:laugh:.

Hi Pot, this is Kettle .

Now with West Jet you might need to change your name to scopeout 737s :)

I dont even know what you are trying to say. Second get with the times i have not use my checkbook ( sounds like a women ) in a long time. Who writes checks?

High interest loans must be a wonderful thing. Good thing for you swa is pft, or you wouldn't have gotten through their shabby program!

OK I know I am not the sharpest Knife but once again your post makes no sense. You do seem very bitter thought. Go outside, enjoy life my bitter friend.

Note: This post written while at the beach :)

Delta Pilots= Didn't pay for training.
Southwest Pilots= Pay for training!!!!!!!!!!

Southwest Pilots get paid from day 1
Delta Pilots don't get paid until they finish training
Southwest Pilots stay in hotels with per diem during training, paid by SWA
Delta Pilots have to find their own lodging and no per diem, until they pass their checkride
Delta Pilots had a worthless furlough clause in their contract..(bet you could run through 8,000 in a hurry, not working)
Southwest has never furloughed.

You did see the (?) QUESTION mark after Delta Pilots love codeshares....did you?

Um, DL pilots do get paid day 1. It wasn't a lot, but it was pay. I remember back in 96 getting an envelope with a check every two weeks in my newhire mailbox in the training center. DL pilots aren't paid per diem or hotels initially, unless they have to go somewhere else for the sims, which happens a lot. They might start classes in ATL, but depending which plane they get, they may have to do sims in MSP (NATCO), or MIA. Several of my classmates had to go to MIA, and got perdiem and hotel. Southwest hasn't furloughed, but they also didn't have a losing quarter until recently. Don't ever say NEVER. Any reason DL didn't furlough over this last year? DL was 1300 pilots FAT. The reason DL didn't furlough was because a flow down to Compass would have been VERY expensive, displacing many Compass pilots, disrupting operations, expensive type rides on the E175 for EVERYONE getting furloughed. Management figured a furloughed would have to last more than 2 years to make it cost neutral, and they couldn't see that. That flow down was better than a no-furlough clause.

Any more incorrect assumptions you want to throw out there?

Bye Bye---General Lee

Southwest Pilots get paid from day 1
Southwest pilots had to pay for their job!

Delta Pilots don't get paid until they finish training
Wrong. But as you did pay for your job, it's not surprising.

Southwest Pilots stay in hotels with per diem during training, paid by SWA
Which was funded by you buying your job!

Delta Pilots have to find their own lodging and no per diem, until they pass their checkride
Wrong again nancy! That bitterness of buying your job just shines through. I bet you cried alot during your buy a job program!

Delta Pilots had a worthless furlough clause in their contract..(bet you could run through 8,000 in a hurry, not working)
Couldn't argue there. Ever hear of force majure?

Southwest has never furloughed.
Not yet. But would you get a refund if they did?

You did see the (?) QUESTION mark after Delta Pilots love codeshares....did you?
I saw it and laughed.
When does the Volaris code share start? You obviously can't handle going across the border!

Good riddance to Westjet. Now, only one to get rid of, Volaris.

And if you haven't figured out life on Flightinfo:

Bragging about pay. That is ALL YOU GOT. How many legs have you flown this year? 346? Good for you. When the legacies bring up their pay, then what will you say? Not much I bet. Do you think you will be the only ones with high pay, forever? You are a well paid regional pilot, with fun stews. Enjoy West Texas.
