I find it hard to believe that anybody didn't see this coming. Certainly Joe Hete knew...he's never pinned his long-term plans for survival to being a part of DHL. John Dasburg knew...which is why he never invested in newer, more fuel-efficient aircraft when they were available. The pilots of both companies knew...many have already left, or have been seeking other positions for a while now. The rest were hoping against hope that they would somehow survive the coming debacle.I find it really really hard to believe that no one from the VP level down knew about this.
Losing 3 million dollars a day gives one a pretty strong incentive for working things out "overnight"This didn't happen over night. If the Germans can't deliver a package overnight how can they work out a deal with UPS overnight.
I dont normally post on here. But I do like to read. This is just further consolidation. The end result is going to be the same, alot of people out of work. Ive seen it at flying tigers, challenge, emery, cat, airborne, and dhl airways. Personally I dont know why any of you ASTAR or ABX guys are even going to work tonight. Send them a messege. At least stick it to them, dont let them sweet talk you and let them tell you that tomorrow is wonderful day. The end result is going to be the same. Everybody is out of work, no paycheck, no airplanes not even a preferential interview.
I work at ccia. Believe me this is going to happen at bax sooner or later. And the day that I am told that bax has been bought and some new operator is going to be on property in 12 months is the day that airplane is not moving with me in it.
Stick together, have some integrity, honor, and let DHL figure out how to move freight for the next 12 months.
I would love to wake up tomorrow, turn on CNBC and watch the headline, DHL shutdown. They deserve it, hete deserves it and everyone else of those management F(#%ks. Im sick of the worker always getting screwed.
Plenty are cashing in. All of the OPF went away first thing this morning, not that I blame anyone.
Yeah these are the same rocket scientist that think getting an extra 4.5 hr on a trip is going to save their toys. There job is gone and they are trying to bank a few dollars to make the payment on the jet ski last longer. I have accepted my fate the house will go up as soon as I fix a few paint marks and drywall holes. I plan on downsizing to my future estimated income of about 1/2 of what I make now.
Our best chance of any success is to join together with Astar, the Daz, Joe and APA and give Dhl an ultimatum. If they want one airline spell out how to give them one, if they need cost cutting figure it out. I do not see how UPS is going to do the same job cheaper than we do it now, 1.75% is pretty damn cheap. I bet even Astar is willing to give a little wiggle room to make it happen. If Dhl says no, then why wait 12-18 months to die on the vine.
Has no analyst said this is a stupid move, giving your biggest competitor who has more money, more management skill and more success the ability to kill you.........
I must be a dumb pilot cuz I missed that day in business class.
Wow glad I passed at ATI, sounds like you guys are right in line to take over some or most of ATI's BAX Global work. Sounds like they (ATI) are going to get the big time shaft probably, from you guy's. Like the old saying "$^it flows downhill"
