What do you expect Joe to say? There are three releases out there. UPS and DPWN have said the same thing in that all flying will be on UPS aircraft. If Joe does anything other than try to get people to "hang in there" untill the badges fail to work, he could have serious problems getting people to come to work and sort freight, mow grass, pump gas, dispatch, schedule, fly, or anything else. He is sugar coating and playing a game. This was the reason for the holding company to begin with. I don't blame him for this. This hand was was given by DPWN.

Those options may include services for customers in the U.S. and around the world in markets where demand for efficient, flexible air cargo and related services continues to expand."

Wow glad I passed at ATI, sounds like you guys are right in line to take over some or most of ATI's BAX Global work. Sounds like they (ATI) are going to get the big time shaft probably, from you guy's. Like the old saying "$^it flows downhill"

Well if Hete is as shrewed as you guys think he is, I would think he bought ATI and Capitol, knowing full well that DHL was going to stick it to him. Now he has some ware to put some of his resources (BAX and other ATI International work) this is of course after he beats wage and benefit concessions out of the ABX side of the equation, and tosses ATI and CHI or whoever else he may own to the curb.

You have to admit it's a creative way to get you guy's to re-negotiate your wage/benefit package, and fly on the cheap. But I should talk I'm flying Crappy Cargo on the cheap myself.

O' what a wonderful world of aviation.... Best of luck to all you guys!
 
Well two problems with that;
1. BAX is paying for DC-8's, not 767's. They've previously (in their corporate magazine) expressed some concern over the cost of 767's, though I would imagine current fuel prices could change their minds. We'll know soon enough because ATI will start operating their own 767 shortly.

2. (and this is the big one) Most of ATI's international ops involve carrying passengers for the military. No other ATSG carriers have a passenger air carrier certificate.

I agree it is not their fault dhl chose this path. I hope they do find work for all of us because it is a great group of people I have had the privilege to work with. We did our jobs and did it well. It's not our fault dhl failed. Which makes it a harder pill to swallow that the aviation side was the one to get chopped since it was not the side that created the mess.

It's just a pep rally (talk) to fire up the ABX folks to help DHL phase in UPS operations. "Please help DHL Express smoothly transition to UPS so DHL customers won't be driven away." How can anybody in their right mind want to help somebody to take their job knowing they will be on the street as soon as UPS is up to speed. There should be outrage. I don't see how contacting elected officials from Ohio can fix this. ABX assumes their employees will help DHL complete the destruction and not see past the charade. If you do a good job and support our (ABX) cause you can reapply and don't forget 'No Dues Required' to work for us. Where is the Teamster support and why would DHL freight move through ILN this week? Oh yeah, ABX employees are professionals and must act accordingly.

What? Doesn't everyone dull the blade of their executioner to make the pain last longer? Contacting elected officials may not help, but it cant hurt. Oh wait, yes it can. It can hurt dhl by giving all those tax dollars back.
 
Dear Crewmember,



DHL has announced that it will work with UPS toward an agreement to
provide transportation in its air network for all of DHL's express,
deferred and international package volume within the US. UPS will also
provide air lift for packages between the US Canada and Mexico. A final
contract is anticipated later this year. It will take approximately
one year after the contract is settled to complete the transition.



The intermediate transition will involve parking 39 DC-9s over the next
12-18 months.



Like you, we are devastated and did not see the UPS portion of the plan
coming. Nobody from the VP level on down at DPWN knew about the UPS
portion. No one from ABX Air or ASTAR knew this was coming.



As futile as it may seem, we will continue to fight for every job we
have. Both 1224 and ABX Air are working with US Senators Brown and Voinovich,
as well as congressman Turner and Governor Strickland to alter this
decision. We are also in contact with President Hoffa's office to put
the full weight of the International behind us.



We are professional airmen. We are the best in the business and recognized
as such. Please conduct yourselves accordingly. At this point, the best
thing you can do to maintain your reputation in this industry is to
fly like you do every night.



There will be an update this evening. Please pass on the word. There
will be a company-sponsored crew meeting tonight at 0130 and a union
crew meeting tomorrow night at approximately 0200.



Please keep your heads in the game and fly safe.
