Ding! Very true. Many of the pilots that I know at ExpressJet have been waiting for DAL. They are now looking at the numbers and have submitted an app with US Airways. Bottom line is that US Airways and American will need a massive number of pilots NOW, and not later, such as DAL. Don't get me wrong, DAL definately has heavy movement on the horizon, but the immediate opportunity at LCC/AMR is unmatched.

If you are qualified and want to a job at LCC/AMR, you WILL get an interview. It's just a matter of time before you are called. I can't say enough positive about my interview experience there. Truly first class and great people.
 
How many in each class? Do you foresee more AB than E190 slots coming up? Besides the fact it's a cross country commute do you know if the PHX to CLT or PHL commute is tough ?

The average is 10-15. In the past several months, there have been more Airbus slots than 190. However, the past is not indicative of future performance. I know we're short on the 190 and they're holding guys on the airplane right now. I think it's a matter of what they need at the time that planner comes into class.

PHX to anywhere is tough. It's especially though between the hubs. There always seems to be someone in the jumpseat.

I've told many friends this that choose to be based in PHL or DCA. But CLT is the best place to be based especially if you commute. The weather never really destroys the hub like it does in other cities. There is always a flight that will get you in before your showtime and there is always a flight that leaves after you get back. You'll almost never get back from a trip and be stuck without a flight home.

I commuted from PHX to PHL for all of 2008 and some of 2010 and 2011. Upside is you can reserve the jumpseat seven days out and most of the flights are the bus, hence two jumpseats. Downside is it's a long commute. If you are a block holder I would say it's easy in the sense that you can reasonably expect to get to and from work relatively stress free due to the reservation system (and can't get bumped for weight and balance).

My recommendation if you want to stick with living in PHX is stay on the 190 and hold a block. For my family and I we decided to move to CLT and haven't looked back.

BTW, my classmates and I did sit long call reserve in PHX. It's a bit risky but it always worked out. However, I think long call may be going away with the merger unless we get in back in joint negotiations.
 
There is no shortage on the 190, and there will almost always be more bus slots per class due to the fact that they only have ONE EMB sim and two "paper" trainers. The reason they are holding guys back is because they dont have the training capacity to fill all the slots for FO's wanting to leave the plane and the relatively high number of upgrades taking away training slots.

I'm not saying I'm ultra positive about this merger but, thinking middle of the road, I don't think the staffing levels will shrink enough to cause stagnation for years. Assuming age 65 stays in place, the retirements are cast in stone. The shrinkage is just speculation.

It's always a gamble to be at the bottom of a seniority list. Speaking for someone who has made the jump and experienced the furlough I would do it again every time.
