Plus...however many west FOs there are..then that time doubles.

You do realize the west also have aircraft right? It's not just pilots that will be combined. An equal number of aircraft will be combined too, making it zero sum.

If you are waiting for Delta ( or any other specific airline ) then you are nuts. At best, any interviewee has a 50/50 shot at getting hired.

Apply everywhere and take the first major that comes along. If you still want another place at least you've got plan B covered and wil probably be better qualified anyway.

Look for 200 more newhires on the East October bid which should be out after the 4th weekend ( or so ).

The training backlog isn't the sim - it's age 65 and retiring check airmen and HR trying to cope with 400+ Flight Attendants being hired as well.

We were talking about Upgrade times, which im sure west FOs will be willing to take on the east.

PGTB.... Stay at your regional(s) (because you will end up working at several as feeder contracts come and go) and you can spend the next 30 years yapping about how you felt the upgrade was going to be too long for you at a major.

And here is your quick upgrade...Its at the regionals. All those Big RJs Republic and Mesa fly, well they are grandfathered in, and don't even count.

As far as scope, gains were made but that's another discussion.

Quick upgrade won't happen at US Airways? Who cares? If being a Captain is that important then stay at a regional for your entire career...if your regional exists that long. You could go to Virgin America. However, I hear they are leaving in droves, many coming to US Airways. Hmm.

Im not worried about a quick upgrade, But many are under the dillusion that they'll all be Airbus captains at USAirways in 5 years. They aren't considering the west FOs and they aren't considering that fact management is already in the processs of replacing mainline aircraft with feed from the likes of Republic and Mesa. If you ever go to a USair hub its already mostly Republic at the mainline gates anyways. Now AA is in the process of replacing MD80s with E175s. I don't think things are as rosy as many of you would like to believe. Weve seen this game before, and we know how it ends.

A five year upgrade seems fast for someone hired today but until things are merged up I think it's almost impossible to tell. I agree, one shouldn't assume five years.

As to replacing mainline aircraft with regional aircraft I believe you are misinformed. As I said in a previous post, we made modest gains in scope. It's my understanding only 76 large rj's (77 seats plus) are allowed. That's the max allowed at US Airways and now it's the max at a much larger airline. I don't have time to list all the details of the other provisions.

Rosy? I guess it's subjective. In accordance with terms already ratified, in 2.5 years I'll be earning the same hourly rate as a guy at UA and DL.

So how does it end? If it's anything like Delta's "demise" I guess I'll take it.
