UPS guys should be kicking every over 60 guy squarely in the jimmies for this.
Going after your fellow pilot is just what management wants, congrats, you are a managers wet dream.
PBR
P.S. And no I am a long ways from 60, you guys just don't get it, 60 vs 65, regional vs mainline, LLC vs LLC ect, the ENEMY is management, and you are too stupid to see the basic facts. Who furloughs, enters BK, merges companies? Oh yeah RJ pilots, age 62 pilots and SWA pilots. You want to see the REAL enemy, look in the mirror, but won't the reality is painful.

Blame everyone!!!!!!!!!!

Every airline has added to the demise of the industry, whether it be one reason or another.

Sorry to all the UPS'ers affected, it does bite

Sorry to all the UPS guys. For a company who is making big profits...granted not it's usual 6-8 Billion a year, it is pretty pathetic to furlough pilots when you are still making 2Billion plus. Sorry guys/gals.
Good Luck!

PBStreet...you are absolutely correct.

And your PFT (Pay for Training) hasn't hurt the industry? You also don't have a pension, even though your company could afford it (didn't lose it in BK). Come down off of your high horse you loser, and go back to your 5 leg day through Texas. (BORING)

Bye Bye--General Lee

you are correct D... head we don't have a pension, we have a 401K with a company match that SWA can't take away from us like Delta did to the retired pilots. We also have profit sharing (you know what that is dont you its when a company actually makes money).

The IPA needs to make sure it's in the next contract that UPS can NOT furlough as long as they make a profit.

Also, does anyone have any rough figures about what % of pilots are picking up open time now that furloughs have begun?

What kind of leverage or incentives will the IPA use to disuade pilots from picking up open time?

"It never floods here..."

"No Furlough" clauses, without loopholes, are a good thing to have. The reason they are not more widespread is that obtaining them always requires spending "negotiating capital". If Management senses that such a clause is very important to the pilots, they will charge a high price for it, just because they can. Many pilots would rather take a pay increase than buy this "furlough insurance", especially when furloughs appear very unlikely. That kind of thinking caught a lot of homeowners who didn't buy flood insurance here in MSY. :bawling:

Are you serious General? No pension, really? That's hilarious coming from you. Do you have any idea what some of the senior guys at SW have in the bank? Stock options made them millionaires without anything else. Add in some years of profit sharing at more than 15% of their annual salaries for several years.. then a 401k bump ON TOP of all that. Do you think they really need more money?

You can keep your pension...oh wait, I'm sorry.

PFT argument doesn't hold water either, try again.

"and raising of the pilot retirement age from 60 to 65 in December 2007 necessitates its first-ever pilot furloughs."

thanks you old ********************s

American greed....gotta love it.

mgmt is always the enemy, but its the 63 year old that could easily retire but doesn't because he doesn't have a loving wife, any friends, or a fricking hobby isn't the fault of the 300 guys getting furloughed.

Exactly. Why PBR doesn't get it and why he thinks mgmt even cares while his 60 yr old buddy is the real one bending him over. He would still blame mgmt if the age limit were raised to 70.
