UPS has sent a letter to the Pilot Group telling us that it has no plans to furlough till at least the end of 2004 (in effect cancelling the furlough talk that has been hanging over our heads since November.) The company announced plans in February to furlough up to 100 pilots by the end of September this year and then "Suspended" those furloughs due to military callups and a few early retirements and a leave of absence program.
The company is understaffed and needs to hire. It has admitted that to the union (who has been telling the company this for a couple years.) The buzz around the Union is that there may even be discussions of hiring. This is the first bit of info I have heard coming from the Union since Pre 9/11. I hope this is good news.
As many of you know we are currently in the middle of contract negotiations. Hopefully we can move forward and get something worthwhile soon. But most of the people who have been here for a while have predicted, it will be years until we have something worth voting on.
