Maybe SkyWest is going the CHQ route and getting out of ground servicing to save money. Maybe their bid was so high they couldn't help but lose.

Beginning of the end, 35 mil profit a quarter isn't enough, greed will get ya every time. Expect to see more of the same, if you wanna see a preview of the future, look at the past(AIR WILLY). Why would mainline continue funneling the kind of cash they have been sending SKYW, when they can just look for a lower bidder. Until the regionals lower their costs to below the mainline seat mile costs, mainline will continue to take their seat miles (rightfully so) back. That is just your mainline job opening up! WHOO-RAH, 'bout time!
PBR

I am all for less regional flying, and more mainline flying.
Bout Time!!

According to the Skywest ramper in ABE this morning who was telling us all about it, Comair's bid was 40% lower than OO's..

Not to mention, the rampers get the shaft if they accept Skywest's transfer package.. If they choose to use that package, Skywest pays for the move, but they lose all seniority at that base. If they just transfer and pay for the move themselves, they get to keep their seniority.. how does that make any sense? OO closes your station and forces you to move, but you lose your seniority..

Maybe if they'd have had a union they would have some protection against this. A union isn't going to keep a base open, but it will assure you don't lose more in the process.

So is this the first time SkyWest has furloughed any employees in its 35 yr history?

This is not considered a furlough. Skywest is offering all affected employees the option to stay with the company but they have to transfer somewhere else.

I'd bet the Comair win had more to do with their planned staffing levels than margins. You Skywest guys have to let managment know how long you waited for a gate. There is going to be a blame game.....

That's what is taught in ground handling school for all carriers. I've yet to find a larger station that does anything different. Smaller stations answer "See you at THE gate" or ginore you because borth of them are out trying to get you to park and miss the deicing truck at the same time.

UH oh it a thread on Skywest better say something about them not having a union.
Your a tool...

What the hell does us not having an employee paid representative board for our pilots have anything to do with this.
Get a life
