What makes them atrocious?

They had no clue NJA was renegotiating the 2005 CBA in 2007, and had no clue we ratified the new CBA until we started separation proceedings. Over $1 Million of our dues each year went for that? The most attention we got was when Hoffa's henchmen invaded our local office and tried to intimidate our staff. Fortunately, some of our staff are some pretty big boys and escorted the thugs out.

Teamsters has always put more emphasis in other areas of the membership. Maybe they saw the light when we split and all will be well. Regardless, CA will have far more job security even before a CBA is ratified because they are organized into a bargaining unit. The only question is how unified the group will be when the union busters apply the full court press. And they will.

What he said. :) Also, the in house union (ASAP) actually does things, while IBT seemed to just collect dues and talk about truckers in its newsletters.

You're kidding right?? Have you no idea of their history? Corruption, ties to organized crime and the fact the teamsters supported Obama. That's enough for me to consider them atrocious!

I also heard 70% of our dues will be going to the national with only 30% staying here for us. Anyone else have info on this?

Can't/won't defend what they have/haven't done in the past. Wasn't there so I can't judge. But . . . OK, so henchmen showed up. Did they have baseball bats, severed horse heads, what? At least you're keeping dramatics out of it. Why were they there? Was it for a reason that NJ just didn't want exposed? Not saying, asking.

No, I'm not kidding. I'm fully aware of their history. I'm also aware of the court-ordered Independent Review Board that investigates accusations of corruption. Can't speak to the Obama thing, but I don't think it's a surprise that organized labor tends to lean left. You seriously can't be that shocked.

Wrong on the dues thing. 30% or so stays with the CA MEC, the rest goes to 1108, of that about 22% goes to IBT national.
