Trans States Airlines to lay off 45 pilots
By Tim Logan
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
06/10/2008

Battered by rising fuel costs, Trans States Airlines said today it will lay off 45 pilots, effective July 1.

The Bridgeton-based regional airline, which contracts with American Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways, is seeing its flights cut back as those airlines reduce capacity. So it will furlough 45 of its roughly 550 pilots.

In recent weeks, as oil prices have spiraled north of $130 a barrel, airlines have been announcing a wide range of cuts in service and staffing.

"The current environment is particularly difficult," said Trans States spokesman Bill Mishk. "What we're trying to do is manage our business."

The 45 furloughed pilots are its most junior first officers, including nine who are finishing training.

Trans States runs about 320 flights a day, nearly half through St. Louis. It's not sure yet how many will be cut, Mishk said.

Does GoJets do American Connection? I understand that capacity cuts by AAL are a large part of the reason for the TSA furloughs.

They only do United Express stuff. AA's scope says 50 seats are the biggest thing any "American Connection" carrier can have (for any code share) which is why TSA(H) did the whole Gojet and Chq did the whole Shuttle America/Republic thing.

Just had a guy DH on one of my flights on his way back home from IOE. He asked if I thought he was safe from furlough and I told him nope. Too bad I wasn't wrong. Its too bad that its not like last time cause I think its gonna be pretty hard for those guys to find new jobs this time around. Although I hear that Comair and maybe Pinnacle are hiring right now.

Well I didnt get the call but seeing as though I was 46 from the bottom...I know it's coming soon..

Want to know the wierd part about all of this...I don't even care anymore.

To everyone who got the calls today, I'm so sorry guys...lets just keep our collective heads up and pass the time doing something that puts a smile on our faces.

UGH

Comair is Hiring alot of pilots right now and we would love to have you guys. Any TSA guys that would like to interview PM and I will gladly forward your resume.

I am sure I have seen Eagle fly CRJ700's Do they not have that restriction.

Still no VARS message or company text or anything acknowledging anything....

Happy 25th...HA!

Yeah no kidding...

What I don't understand is that we were short on captains before they downgrade, no we are going to be short on FOs. We ought to have a clause in our next contract that prohibits them from junioring people while there are guys on furlough.

Yeah, I am sure they will sign that contract.

if this isn't a lesson to never let an alter-eGO start, what is? All why Gayburgh is getting 4 more shiny jets.

At least the job you'll get at Comair or SkyW will be at a better company than TSA.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, should have voted "yes" then. Secure the flying first. But, oh well.

awwwwwwww, how very 5th grader of you. Are you old enough to shave yet?? Don't worry, those pubes will be growing on you anytime, Jr.

flyboyzii,
its funny, you are very vocal on the board. Yet when I was a regional pilot at ORD you guys would not even lift your head to look any of us in the eye.

I am now working in Dubai, flying corporate jets, and also meeting a lot of guys from Emirates and I am letting them all know about you sluts.

Oh yea, and I had my badge turned around backwards too, right?? *eyeroll*

Stop by our crewroom someday will ya. I will gladly open the door for you.

Are you gonna make "mud pies" in the sand box and climb on the monkey bars. I already know you have plenty of Kool-Aid

Just stop by so we can talk I will be glad to offer you some of MY kool-aid.

Sorry BrokeBack, what you do on your overnights with the male FA's is your business but I like the female persuasion.

I don't pay attention to rumors etc.... I go to work..do my 4 days...go home.

How do you sleep at night? At least do us the the favor of going to play hide and go F$ck yourself in traffic....

I sleep just fine. Unlike you and a few others that need a pacifier and a diaper change twice a night. Be careful not to fall out of the crib Jr.

O.K. this is enough crap from a GoJet Suckwad. I was at Trans States during the GoJet debacle. I DID vote YES so it would be a done deal and nobody would have to worry about it. I heard your crap and I heard the MEC's crap. Ironic that the Chairman had an agenda to vote it down and is now at a NON-UNION carrier.

I don't care what side you were on or if you left TSA and stabbed your co-workers in the back to work for GoJet, but have a little class for those that are loosing jobs!

As you act like a 5th grader slinging insults you show to everyone what kind of person would go work for GoJet despite the harm it would do to Trans States Airlines.
