Union: Flight Options Fired Pilots for Traffic Violations
The Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 1108, which represents pilots for fractional provider Flight Options, said this week that some pilots were fired for their inability to receive Canpass authorization. According to the union, Flight Options management recently fired or otherwise forced out approximately six pilots over what it said amounted to simple traffic violations. Canpass eligibility, which allows a foreign aircraft to enter Canada with fewer restrictions if the crew and passengers are pre-qualified, “is required of our pilots in order to provide the highest level of service and efficiency to our customers,” a Flight Options spokesman told AIN. In addition, the union told AIN it offered management a simple workaround that would have allowed the fractional provider to offer the same level of service, but was turned down. According to the union, management instituted the requirement as a form of leverage, as the two sides are engaged in a contract negotiation. Flight Options declined to comment on the alleged firings or the contract negotiations.

The mangement team who made this call loves to go to court. I would be willing to bet that less then 1/2 of 1% of their flights fall into this catagory. Therefore it really isn't a service issue.

Also keeping all the pilots canpass qualified is a expense that may or may not pay for itself.

I fly for FLOPS, our CEO is a s#%tbag. They are just PO'd that we unionized, so they are trying to scare us into submission. They will have to explain their decision in court.

DUI's, DWI's, Wreckless Op, Fleeing and Eluding, generally the more serious ones. The everyday speeding ticket isn't a show stopper.

How far back do they check for traffic or other offenses. I mean, so you got a speeding ticket 6 years ago...wtf does that have to do with anything??

Yes, a single stupid act that you did twenty years ago as a kid can get you fired at flight options now. You can't meet the conditions of a foreign govt so now you get fired. In one case flight options misused the canpass authorization and caused the pilot to have his canpass suspended by canada. And now he is subject to termination for the company's mistake. Only two or three owners at Flops actually use the canpass.

It is just another way to get rid of a handful of higher paid pilots. Chip away a few here and a few there so as not to piss off the entire pilot group. One day they will come for you!

Follow the initiatives!
Pay your dues!
ASAP!
