Now we're talking! I gotta chime in with Guiness (of course), Hennepin, and Ommegang. They sure know how to make some good beer up in Cooperstown. Recently I have started downing a Rasputin every now and then . . similar to Guiness, and definetly an acquired taste.

I had some beer from a brewery up in Bellingham, WA that I think was called OCB or OSB. This was 4 years ago and I have forgotten the real name of this outstanding brew. Anybody know what the name of this stuff is????

So many beers, so little time. My favorite kinda depends on where I am at the time and what's available on tap. I can drink Guinness or Newcastle just about anywhere. In TX it's Shiner Bock...in the Pacific Northwest I like anything from Pyramid (especially the Hefeweisen), and Alaskan Amber of course. In SoCal with good Mexican chow I like Pacifico. Arrogant Bastard Ale is pretty good too, can't remember where it's brewed. I toured the Guinness brewery in Dublin 2 yrs ago, I think it actually tastes better over there. Wonder if I could live there and commute to the US?

What an interesting combo of two beers...

An ice cold Miller Lite is great, but for some reason it just isn't good warm.

I can't stand Guiness, don't ask me why, but I've never liked it.

Ales are always preferable to lagers.
Micro-brewed usually preferable to mass-produced.
A well-poured pint over bottles or cans.
Some good choices:

Bottles:
Rogue Breweries of Newport, OR has a Mocha Porter and Shapespeare Stout among others that are DELICIOUS! and available around the country.

On tap:
Various local "best bitters" as still served in some UK pubs (not a very practical suggestion, I realize)
Guinness
Try an IPA (or better yet a sample tray if you can get one) at a good microbrewery near you!

First, Nürnberger Altstadthof, the only place to get it is just down the hill from the castle in Nürnberg.

Second, Neumarkter Lammsbräu.

Third, Any other German beer except Parkbräu. It's foul.

Fourth, Guinness.

Anything with "Light", "Lite", or any similar wording in the name is unacceptable.

On tap, bottles if nothing is on tap, cans only when nothing else is available.

"I'll have what the gentleman on the floor is having."

Gordon Biersch Dunkles- why don't they bottle this??? But I won't lie... Bud Light is my main staple. Ever go on the factory tours? I went to the Anheuser Busch one in Fairfield, CA (kinda near Travis AFB) and the Budweiser/Bud Light on tap was delicious! I even got an "Honorary Brewmaster" award because I could tell between skunky and normal beer. Like that's hard

Good thread:

Microbrewed beer in the States is usually my first choice, on tap of course.

Just went to Munich and the Czech Republic. Have to say that the beer there is much better than the States. No chemicals = no hangover. Surprisingly I liked the Hofbrauhaus beer better than Augustiner. In the Czech Republic Pilsner Urquell on tap followed by Budvar ( the original Budweiser ).

The Northwood's Lager is good too, as is the Orinigal, Creamy Dark, Honey Weiss, Octoberfest and Berry Weiss on a hot day. I've trucked more cases of Leiny's home in various baggage compartments, my record is 18 cases in an empty Lear, so I consider myself a true addict.

At the beer store the other day I paid witness to the ever obvious fact that I have matured at least a tiny bit since my younger days. I bought about $50.00 worth of beer which covered about 7 six packs of various sippin' brews. 10 years ago $50 would have covered 7 cases or Busch Light with enough left over for some Cheetos. Progress??!!!
