Did any other poolies talk to the PD and get the same info I did?

I was told 6-7 classes out for me. Possibly late summer, possibly fall, possibly later. I'm a 19JUN pooldate. It sounds like they have a rough classdate plan, but nothing set in stone. All pending higher-up approval, of course

I talk to the peeps in the PD today. I am a Aug 14
poolie, and it looks like it will be first of 2009 for class.

I talked to the PD today as well. They mentioned (nothing comfirmed...) 1 class in Feb, & 1 in March. Nothing confirmed was emphasized. No dates. They are waiting to hear what the 130 something guys reaching 60 this year are going to do...

I'm still treading water and can't wait to get into a class......

Anybody here NOT willing to wait a year or more for a class date? If I was standing in line at a theme park, the sign next to my spot would say "Wait is 1 year from this point."

SWA is my number 1 choice and I'm able to get by with an AF reserve job, but I can't help but wonder if I should be putting out apps to the other airlines.

You know, you COULD go somewhere else. And then--when SWA did call--decide if you liked your new gig or if would be better to move on to SWA.

Airlines don't pay year 1 pay because they hate you. (although some appear to....) They do it because they know folks move around. I know some dudes who will have 14 months of seniority or so by the time they get the call from SWA...and they may decide to pass. Other folks will punt where they are and be there in a heartbeat.

Just my take. Not the nicest thing to do in the world to a potential employer, but I think of it as an opportunity to test drive other gigs. You might even like it...

Albie makes a very good point. I've been in the pool since May. I retired from the AF in Aug, got a good job w/decent pay for now and continue to look for other opportunities. I've passed on one good offer in the corporate world (didn't want that location for my family), but continue to look for others.

In short, use the time to look around to see what else is out there. You never know--you might find something you like.

I spent over 2 years in their pool from 02 to 04. Not quite as long as Bake but still a good long time. Lucky for me something else came along and I was able to feed the family while I waited. I would definitely work other plans right now, the age change just put a huge kink in the works at every airline, and it might be a year or two before you work your way to the head of the list.

For what its worth, SW treated me great while I was in the pool, they knew I was working for somebody else, and they even positive spaced me to DAL to update my whiz quiz after about a year and a half. They also gave me plenty of time to make the decision once the call for a class finally came, said I could defer for up to six months if I needed to. Turned out I stayed put but they were a class act all the way.

Good luck to the poolies, but don't fool yourself, age 65 just rocked your world so standby for the heavy rolls. Keep the backup plans in motion and don't pass up another opportunity while waiting.

Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on retired guys returning and stepping in front of poolies for class dates. I don't know if this will happen, but from what I'm hearing it is a possibility. Thoughts..............

I asked the folks in the PD that a few weeks ago and I was told that the retired folks would have to wait until they are interviewing again, then reinterview. That being said, nothing says they cant change that tommorrow if they want to. Anyone talk to any of the folks that started class today? Just curious what they're being told about future classes.

I have a friend in management there that said any retired pilot would have to re-interview. There is always someone in the workforce a company wouldn't want back if they had to do it all over again.
Secondly as to the idea that they would jump in front of all you poolies, he said highly unlikely...for one that goes against everything Southwest is about, and also they'd get sued by poolies if it adversly affected them.

You must not know any attorneys. There doesn't really have to be grounds, that's up to a judge. Litigation now a days is a feakin free for all...Not an attorney myself, I think a discrimination suit would fit the bill.... I'm sure Tanker Clown in his infinite wisdom will have the answer......he seems to know everything and can even predict the future!!!
