Many negative changes here...severe punishment, weird policies, but mostly an extremely negative slant from management against ALL labor groups. There are many grievances either in work or recently won against management lately...not sure what is up with that, but this place aint what it was even a year ago

This isn't good news at all.

Remember the above comments are part of a two way street. A good number of people here have NO IDEA how good they have had it and are screwing it up in a few minor ways for the majority. The only way this company or any other will be "as good as it was back then" is for the employees (both mgmt AND labor) to take ownership and ensure that it does not turn into just another airline. When the finger pointing starts, it all goes south. Fast! Change is good but it can be a bitch. Do NOT believe everything you read on here. Having said that, I do agree (albeit mildly) with Gup and Daddy. The kicker is reading through the alarmist slant and realize that nothing as fluid as an airline in the U.S. will just stay the same year in and year out. Adaptability and the ability to not take ourselves too seriously have made SWA what they were and what they will be. To those of you already on the property I would say if you see something you don't like, get to work changing it and come armed with a solution. To those of you on the way, it is a phenomenal place to work and has only gotten better since I started. Just my $.02

Well said. I'm still happy here.:D

Remember, for a lot of the folks at SWA, this is their first airline. It's all relative, and as far as an airline job goes this is still a great place to work.

Do you guys work for the same airline I do? How long have you been here?

I've been here almost 8. It was "da bomb" when I got here. Not a day went by when somebody didn't do something nice to/for another employee.

The past year I have REALLY seen changes. Then the past 6 weeks have been miserable. I've basically been told I'm last in every aspect. When your airline makes the ops agents sign confidentiality agreements and tells them to tell commuters that don't agree with our new policy "you chose to commute" and "it's not YOUR jumpseat, it's the companies" there is a problem.

I'm not a first grader. I've been told not to nonrev when I'm sick. I don't need Colleen "reminding" me.

I'm all about WN pilots flying WN flights. I don't need codeshare partners to fly intl. because "we don't have the knowledge" to do it.

Now we've got the company telling me to show my Southwest spirit by continuing to help push wheelchairs - just be sure I come back up and board with the "C" group. You're serious, right?

I've got CSA's that won't call down the jetway and ask the ops agent to let me run on 5 minutes prior to push.

Flight attendants don't call or come up to visit anymore.

Folks, this place is a shell of what it was just 8 years ago. I'm not impressed with the direction we're pointing.

--- and for you guys to tell me to buck up? You're more resiliant than I. I'm getting tired. I'm not going to quit but I'm not going the extra mile anymore.

When we become like United, which by my clock ought to be by next summer, you can blame it on me.

I'll leave it to my brothers to cheer you up about how great this place is cause I'm outta koolaid.

Gup

Man...sounds pretty sh!tty. You should quit. Sounds like you'll never be happy again. The good news is, Delta is hiring. You can go throw gear for the General.

BTW, I'd love to have your spot right now. My current employer won't even let me quit my job.

What's changed? You get a jumpseat form and you preboard. The captain tells you to grab a seat in the back.

I'm not a first grader. I've been told not to nonrev when I'm sick. I don't need Colleen "reminding" me.

Good for you. Apparently, some people do need reminding. Big deal.

Again, be one of the first two SWA guys to sign up for the j/s and preboard...like we've always done.

Flight attendants don't call or come up to visit anymore.

From what I've been told, they're instructed not to call us. Apparently it's in their FOM.

Folks, this place is a shell of what it was just 8 years ago. I'm not impressed with the direction we're pointing.

What are you doing to change it?

When we become like United, which by my clock ought to be by next summer, you can blame it on me.

Have you ever worked for United?

Dude, you clearly did not come from regional pond scum like many of us have. Get furloughed, bounced to the right seat, then ******************** on with a piss contract and zero quality of life and call me back. I'm only a poolie; but let me tell you brother it's better there than here..................Sit on a Continental jumpseat and reevaluate!!!

Gup.

I have been here for four years. I also have three other uniforms in my closet. How many do you have in your closet. That is a better measure of understanding if SWA is doing OK. Trust me, we are doing just fine. I do agree things are changing, but if all we have to do is complain about the js (I am a commuter), then we are pretty damn lucky!! Just get to the counter early enough to get one of the first two spots...remember, the policy has not changed...it is just getting enforced. Could it be better? Yep...but.

Yeah, it's way better than most other airline gigs out there but it is shocking how far it's dropped in the last year or so here...the rate of increase of the retardedness is the key here. It leaves a lot of us wondering how much longer until it REALLY does suck here...at this rate, it wont be long. I still like working here and the flexibility is great but I just wonder how long for the other shoe to drop.

PS Gup, hang in there brudda

PPS Tanker clown...please stay in the Air Force

Daddy,

What's your idea of REALLY suck? Do you have prior airline experience factored into your perspective?

Gup,
As a poolie, it was actually refreshing (believe it or not) to hear a negative perspective of the company for a change. Sometimes it makes me wonder with all the positive comments, if everyone is telling the truth or just blowing smoke.

That said, I've looked real close at your gripes and their merits. From a guy on the outside looking in, I have a real hard time seeing anything that even comes close to what pilots in the rest of the industry have had to deal with (pay cuts, loss of pension, furloughs, etc.). Granted, you know the company much better than I, and I don't doubt what you say is true about WN not being the same as it once was.

I just think that with the industry in such a turbulent state, it's unrealistic to expect everything at WN to operate as if there were no problems at all. You sound very frustrated at how WN is no longer the same as it used to be---I can only imagine how great that must have been, but still look forward to working for what I still consider the best airline out there today.

I have no illusions of the problems in the airline industry and the challenges Southwest faces over the next few years. I worry about the future of the company, furloughs, and just whether my training date will slip once again. None of that, however rises to the level to make me give up my pool slot, or to give up flying altogether.

Definitely hang in there Gup. I'm hoping that your statement about not wanting to go "the extra mile"
was made more out of frustration, than not caring. From what everyone on the "inside" tells me, I think SWA is still too good of a company to give up on.

Thanks for keeping things honest.

Yo! What's that all about? Man, I'm not sure why you are being so hostile.

the hostility is due to your asinine posts.

my buddy is in your unit, and says that you are positively the worst pilot and fantasy football player he has ever met.

shouldn't you be pretending to be an airline pilot on Second Life right now?

Wow, there's some serious brown nosing. I could be wrong, but I don't think you move up in the pool any quicker if you're wearing knee pads.

406, you obviously don't have what it takes to be a SWA pilot. With that attitude, there's no way you would ever make it through the interview. You just don't seem to have the SWA spirit.

BTW, I'm not the worst pilot your buddy has ever seen. If I was, I'd be working at Delta. Ha Ha.

Finally, I don't even know what Second Life is. Is that one of your pedophile games? Do they have a direct link to it off the NAMBLA web site?

OK Guys, this thread was started for people in the SW pool to keep each other informed, not a "what's so great about working at WN" thread. There's
plenty of that on here if that's what you're looking for...

I'm not so sure things are that great there.

it seems like the same 5-10 guys recycling backwashed kool-aid day after day on all the SWA threads.

although i'm sure that blueandwhite buffoon would love another glassful of backwashed kool-aid.

Hey Poolies,

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but my buddy (he just completed is PC down at DAL) was told that classes are going to be postponed until the second quarter. He said it's because of "softening domestic demand" and due to that they are parking some of the old 300's at a faster pace.

He said that they have cut thier deliveries and essentially accelerated the parking of jets. Therefore, there is a net decrease in pilots needed for now.

Good luck. Hope the economy picks up and this is all a bad dream.
