spoke to Diane today, she said there are a few confirmations that did not get a reply back yet for the 23 class, she also got a confirmation of two classes in May. Looks like the outlook for the poolies is looking a little better. :beer:

I bet that one of the classes in May will be a small class of returning over 60 guys. I flew with the SWAPA VP recently and he mentioned that there were some that were not able to start class tomorrow. We'll see. Hopefully the rumor of classes in May is true.

A friend in the know says that the sims wil be pretty much booked up from August throught the end of the year for training. This has to do w/ training all pilots at the company.

I have a 1 July pool date. On Monday afternoon PD said I was "4-5 classes away" after April. Hopefully on the cusp dropping into the fourth class!

FWIW, PD also said 4-5 deferals since 1 Jan and 5-6 declines.

I've been lurking on this thread (and on the original thread) for quite some time now...going on 10 months now! I got the call for the April 23rd class from Diane!! I am a 6/10 poolie. I am so glad to finally be drying off!!! I really wasn't expecting anything until August so I am really excited to be in the last April class!!!

I just talked to Ronna. She confimed 2 classes in May 24 each. She said they are still trying to fill some slots in the April 23rd class. Calls for the May classes will be going out in 1 or 2 weeks. She said I am right on the edge of the 2nd class in May depending on who may defer or deny. Then as of now nothing on the training schedule until August.

My last block of 5 days off scheduling called three times trying to JA me. My theory is lance captains are picking up as much CA time as possible and apparently are successful, leaving lots of uncovered FO trips. We are a little short.

I did some checking and there are roughly 45 poolies between myself and the last guys to get into the April 23rd class.

So looking at the unofficial pool kept on here, that's about a factor of 1.3 between where I am at on the actual pool list and the list here.

So just take your number on this list, times 1.3 and that is a pretty good estimate of your number in the actual pool.

Sounds like about 10 so far have defered/declined so if anything my numbers are extra conservative.

So if they run two classes in May, I think I would make the second one with a pool date of 6/17/07

Anyone smarter than myself care to shed light on if SWA plans to capitalize on Skybus going out of business, all legacy carriers reducing domestic capacity, and possibly going after Virgin Amer.? and what that would mean for class dates and draining the pool?

You think that southwest went into SFO to compete w/ UAL and AA? No -- maybe they're going after Cathay? They're there for virgin.

Those commercials about the nickel and diming for services-- think those were aimed at legacies who charge for snack boxes or at Skybus for charging for checked bags? WN competes w/ LCC's

It's a fair question- i would guess it's good for southwest overall- but it really sucks for aloha and ata pilots. Those were good careers for a long time. skybus... well employees there knew they were taking a pretty big risk... cmh-st augustine? w/ stairs on a ramp...

It's unfortunate it is cut-throat business, however, the thought process goes back a long way. I realize it may be hard to talk about business in this way especially when fellow employees and families are enduring hardships. I am still interested in the business mindset of SWA and their business plans in such a volatile state of the industry?

BE200 is right. If you look at the history of SWA, they usually pounce on any opportunity they see to grow domestically. The two cities that come to mind are BNA and STL when AA cut back.

I'm more interested to see how SWA reacts to a DL/NW merger....

Time will tell.
