Probably the 80 - 100 K tailwind from LAS provided plenty extra of fuel.....

What about fuel? I thought even though the FMC shows 300 lbs. on arrival that we'd "give 'er a shot" cause we're WN.

Gup

What if ..... what if ...... what if.??? what if.... what if??? what if.... what if... what if.... what if???? what if.... what if ... what if the crew just lands at an airport that is familiar to them while having plenty of fuel remaining with a cabin that is controllable at a lower altitude.

Difference in corporate culture, I guess. Carry on.TC

They'd be fired, or worse yet, not considered "heros"!!! :p
I love how we take something, like this abnormal situation, and turn it into a "blown-out-of-proportion" spectacle!!!

Fired! Say Again??? Were you there? Do you have all the information that the crew had in making their decision? Would you just divert to an offline airport and shoot an approach to minimums or with TS in the area or continue to the destination that is CAVU while having everything under control. It's very easy to play monday morning quarterback with a keyboard. But until you are placed in the same situation they were in..........

DUDE REEEEEELAX!!!!! I was joking, haha:laugh: . I would have done exactly what they did, I misread your post, so sorry. I had a depressurization problem and it was no big deal, continued to dest. at a lower alt. Granted it was only for 25 min., but got there safely. Why are people so freakin' uptight on these boards???? What is with you and the 'monday morning quarterback" saying???

'cause that's exactly what it is. "wednesday morning quarterbacking". Ok I'm relaxed now. Chillin' ,layed back, suckin' on gin and juice. peace man!

See, now don't you feel much better??? No need to raise the blood pressure here, there are plenty of other ways to do that!!!!

We've created one or two generations of pilots who can't think for themselves. They just follow the QRH. They don't evaluate situations and act accordingly. Always second guessing themselves by asking: What would the FAA say?

Heard of a crew not too long ago that initiated a high speed abort for....Dah, daaaaahhhhhhhhh...ANTI SKID INOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How's that for reacting without thinking?

If I was at AA, I would have diverted. Think of how I could have dragged out that block time, you know looking for a place to park.

Heros'.....plane and simple.

You just never know what Mr. Fed is thinking. If he thought you should have landed at the nearest most suitable airport, he will go after the crew. I know a crew that was tortured for this same exact reason and the captain got nailed. Captains emergency authority is questioned on more than a few occasions. I guess it all depends on what Mr. Fed feels at the time, or what action he thought should have taken place. If these guys did fly for as long as they say, I am sure they will at least have a conversation with "Mr. Fed". Just hope is not in the Chicago office.

Different corporate culture indeed, make no mistake about that. However, it played no part in the decision to take the airplane to its intended destination.
