Many aspects of aviation operations are critical to safety. Not just below 10,000', and not just when the doors are shut.

When jumpseating with your future brothers or receiving them lets not bring up the SLI, politics, or the four letter words of the senority integration and the justification of them.

You are asking for trouble, distractions, unprofessionalism, and an unsafe environment that can bring the house crashing down.

Don't do it.

Talk about something else. I won't be specific on this.

Thanks dad. I'm sure your admonishment means a lot to everyone involved.

Hopefully with a set of plasti-cuffs and a nice ball gag.

Hear Bobby spout drivel.
See Bobby get cuffed and stuffed.
Hear Bobby moan with ectasy.
Laugh at Bobby.

I jumpseat a lot on AirTran, and have found them now, as before Sep 10, to be a classy group of men and women who I would be happy to share a cockpit with. Yes, there is the "elephant in the room" on the jumpseat, but I think that they, as I, realize that there is a time and a place for that discussion, and tact requires it to not be on the flight deck. I think we all hope for a satisfactory outcome to this situation, and I also think that we realize that our definitions of "satisfactory outcome" may be different. Just as I would not go to a friends' house that is Muslim and tell them that I think their religion is wrong, neither would I expect my Muslim friend to berate my religion. It's called good manners, and believe it or not, most of us actually have them, in real life anyway. ;)

Of course, if they were to ask me point blank what I think is fair, I would tell them (probably hedging a little, but hey, they asked) - and, likewise, I would expect them to be "true to their colors" if I were to ask them the same on my jump seat. File it under the heading of "Don't ask a question, if you don't want to know the answer" with a healthy dose of "take it like a man" and "we can agree to disagree".

Respectfully and Fraternally,
PapaWoody

Sorry bro. You sit on my jumpseat I'm gonna talk...... a lot. You're free to ride in the back or take the next flight. In case you haven't noticed or are just naive, NOT talking about this stuff aint making it go away.

I would rather be in the back standing anyway Gup than listening to unprofessional behavior and having heated discussions. You know it may not be that way, but why go down that road. You are not going to change any minds. Don't bother. You are wasting your breathe and I don't understand your purpose except to annoy people. You are just trying to make yourself feel good.

It would also be dishonorable because you would have a jumpseater at a disadvantage. I would think u more honorable than that. Do you want guys to lie to you?

Before I head to the back for most of the flight I will throw a small soapbox under your seat. Just call me before the 10,000 call and I will come in and take my seat ;)
thx.

You're probably not going to like the arbitrated result, so yes, you will be talking, a lot. It just won't be the staple you wish for.

We had a AAI jumpseater a month ago MKE - BWI. He was excited because he said this is going to be such a great integration. He said this is the first time that "Two equal airlines merge" Said it is a no brainer....DOH will work fine as long as the Captains are protected.

He also said that we should be happy that we won't have to fly the -300's anymore. The 717 will be replacing all of them.

At the risk of starting a fire I'll just make one comment.

It pisses you guys off when we explain to you how good of a deal you inherited and that fair and equitable goes both ways.

That's NOT a flame. I'm NOT looking to start a fight. It's simply an observation after reading/listening for the past 8+ months.

If things are going so great why are you mergering with us? One thing I have learned is that companies in this business have a habit of not substaining their top position, and you adapt or die.

Getting back to the original purpose of the thread...

The loudest person in the the room is the weakest.

That's a easy one... Gary saw and very easy opportunity to move into Atlanta and get rid of competitor in one swift move. (great business move)

Now, what does the Airtran contract bring to the SW pilots, versus what do the Airtran pilots expect to gain? Goes back to why on group is wearing lanyards and the others are not.

The differences between the two are MORE than night and day.

Nothing, unless you see something you want. I already told everyone on here that the AT pilots can get together monthly and have a bake sale for the SWA pilots who feel they aren't gaining anything and all proceeds will then be available to put in your pocket. We know you have a better contract. Everyone knows you have a better contract. We get it, but does that mean we deserve to be stapled? Contracts come and go. Ask our friends at the Legacy carriers.
As to the lanyard thing, it's your choice not to wear it, but the reason you are deciding not to wear it seems rather childish and not fitting of the "culture" you guys seem to describe. I don't wear mine because I don't like wearing lanyards. Had SWA given out a pocket clip ID holder with some sort of ONE LUV theme, I would be wearing it.

What'd you have for breakfast, OYS? I had a banana and some turkey.

See and avoid, a classic. Don't worry OYS, they don't want to address the arbitration issue. It will be fun to watch how this all pans out. Do you really eat bananas and turkey for breakfast? When do you do that? By 7am you already have flown 2 legs between Harlingen and Austin, and onto El Paso. Good for you!

That was a good move. And it was also good for Gary to constantly state in the press that it was a merger. Throw in some arbitration, and the best move of them all will be done by the Airtran NC deciding binding arbitration is best for their group. That will make the cockpit chatter a slightly higher pitch. (all in the name of fairness)

I saw the first "(o)No Love" sticker yesterday at BWI. Great sticker and it's so true! Good luck to everyone; we're going to need it.

Contracts don't matter to arbitrators with SLI. Put the pipe down, and read the law.

As for the lanyards that has more to do with who thinks they are about to get screwed. Really they are not. It is just their perspective because they have been living in a bubble outside reality for about a decade now. But hey! So did Pan AM, Braniff, USAir, United and Delta. You guys have been running around more concerned about 30 years from now then 5 years from now. Sorry you had to wake up from that dream. Guess you guys are acting like everybody else would. True colors. That is ok. We are not tested when things are easy. Only when times are tough.

Starting to sound like the only Luv the last few years is money bought.

If I were u guys I would be more worried about a paycut the next 5 years then the SLI.

You guys are so ALPA and you don't even know it. Next, maybe a giant rat? Where is the "No Love" coming from? How are you guys receiving "No Love?" Greed has become the demise of not only our industry, but this country. Don't join in. We've all seen the repercussions. There are enough deliveries planned at LUV over the next 3 1/2 years that everyone should feel the LUV. What is it that you guys want from your management that you aren't already getting?

Funny stuff Larry David. You need to curb your enthusiasm some more. There will be some of us laughing though when this is all over. Good luck and Godspeed.

If you keep your room clean and do your c*************************(really? this board edits the word c-h-o-r-e-s?), maybe Mom won't take your computer privileges away again.....

OK...... you've called me out! LOL!

If you could humor me a couple answers? Please?

Do you REALLY think that contract$, $trength of company, and career expectaion$ don't matter to an arbitrator?

If you don't, why, and please give me some data to convince me. That data should include examples of two companies as different as AAI/WN.

If you were "us" guys? You'd be worried about paycuts in the next 5 years? Please provide data to convince us of your stance. If the answer is "just because" you'll have to try harder.

Good luck with your answers.

Gup
