Humm, I remember of bunch of Southwest people here were complaining about Delta not putting up the LGA slots for bid. At least it was a couple of airlines that were going to get the slots....this just goes straight to Southwest...I haven't heard one Southwest person complaining that it wasn't put up to bid to the highest bidder...now that is hypocrisy!

DAL, if I remember correctly, was trying to sell/trade the slots. CAL is only leasing them; the combined CAL/UAL still retains ownership of the slots. I am surprised that the DOJ to not force CAL to divest the slots. This is a best case scenario for CAL/UAL. I still can't believe it.

Absolutely, this is worse...CAL gets to keep ownership of them! It is amazing that Southwest gets everything handed to them on a platter. No landing fees for 20 years, what gates do you want...ok here you go, oh you want a new parking garage...here you go....and who pays for it....every other airline who pays the fees that allow Southwest to come!

You're right.

Southwest has never paid its fair share of airport fees.

Everywhere we go hot babes bend over and airport authorities buckle.

It's good to be us. :pimp:

They are leasing the slots from CAL; meaning they are paying CAL to use the slots. The SWA paranoia seems a little extreme.

Easy come, easy go. It's not like they're showing up because they smell blood in the water. SWA is just doing what they do. I think this will be good for everybody.

Along with EWR, the news of Mexicana closing the doors, may be time for SWA forget the Volairs and do it themselves. Order a bunch of -800's. There will be a huge gap left in flying to/from Mexico and some $$$ to be made. That should help the poolies. Interesting times ahead for SWA.

Mexicana only flew to 12 US cities.

Of those 12, all of them went through Mexico City.

5 go direct to Cancun.

6 go direct to Guadalajara.

Those are the only direct flights to and from the US. Mexicana was not a huge player, carried just over 11 million passengers in 2009.

LOL!

It has not been announced yet but I'd bet money on Chicago, Denver and Baltimore.

Gup

Good luck to BWI. You could walk the trip quicker than the time you will sit. Gonna have to be some longer routes. HOU, MDW, LAS, PHX, STL, etc. Unless of course CAL/UAL has put restrictions on where they can fly with the slots.

Good for SWA. Congrats. Now I wonder where they will fly. My bet is West Coast (California), Vegas, or South Florida.

For the poolies or anyone ele I am sure we are planning to only optimize not grow for a few more years.. we wish to make more money.. I would luv to see mexico or san juan but don't think that will happen for 5 years. this is only a guess.. hate to be a downer but my guess is we want atlanta first .. again only a WAG

Gary Kelly on CNBC himself stated that "Mexico expansion was done via Volaris" or similar statement. I don't see SWA orange and blue planes on any ramps in Mexico.
