S3B Priority Coming quickly to ASA

That is more fair than what we are hearing. We are hearing that you guys will be higher priority than us on our aircraft. If Delta people get priority on ASA aircraft, then things will get ugly, even for a "company" man like me.

Do we really need to explain this to you?

Yes. Explain to us why you're better than a ramper. You already get paid better. Tell us why you deserve better benefits than someone who workes 10x harder than you in a given day.

It doesn't have to do with hard work, it has to do with how specialized a profession is and the impact it has on the company. It takes no commitment to become a ramper (I used to be one). There's no education, lengthy formal training or experience requirement. If you don't like it you move on to the next job. Our career however requires a major commitment without an easy out if things go sour. In most industries, the more specialized the profession, the better the benefits, but not in aviation. That is because there has been a surplus of pilots and SJS. Maybe in the not to distant future things will sway our way if the "shortage" has an effect.

"ASA, Delta continue working toward new flight benefits agreement
March 13, 2007 11:21 a.m.
During Delta’s Atlanta Transition meetings last week, Delta’s vice president of the Atlanta
Worldport, Gregg Kennedy, said that the June 1, 2007, Flight Benefits date for transitioning
employees will be superior to the flight benefits that ASA employees will have in the near future.
Although this comment has stirred concern among ASA employees about losing current flight
benefits, it mirrors what was originally communicated by ASA when Delta sold the regional airline
to SkyWest, Inc. in September 2005.
ASA is currently working with Delta on finalizing the details of the new flight benefits agreement. It
will be shared with ASA employees when complete. In the meantime, ASA flight benefits remain
unchanged."

Sounds like the change is a done deal to me.
 
It won't be S3B. That's for retirees, children, parents, and spouses. It will be S3C.

It's a sad state of affairs when a 14-year old son of a Delta ramper would get on a flight before a commuting pilot, but that's the way it goes I guess.
On a DL flight that's how it should be. And YOUR 14 y/o son should get on an ASA flight ahead of a DL commuting pilot...but, as you say, "that's the way it goes I guess."
 
If the situation should arise where DAL mainline ends up being able to fly on ASA aircraft at a higher (S3) priority than ASA can fly on mainline (S3C), I hate to imagine what the consequences may be for some DAL people who commute on ASA. There will suddenly be severe weight & balance issues that arise at the last moment. That is the general talk in the ASA lounges right now. If the benefits have to change, then let it be a "level playing field" at least, ASA S3C on DAL and vice versa.

DAL crewmembers need to push hard for this, I can assure them it will be in their best interests. ASA people will not be treated like dirt much more, they are totally fed up with just about everything right now!

The beatings will continue until moral improves, hey, good goes around.
 
A ramp supervisor said tonight that DAL needs 1400 ASA people to go over and only 300 have put in shows of interest. Some are waiting until the merit positions come out and others will wait until the Mar 30 deadline, but for the most part it's turning out not to be such a good deal for them. Most will take pretty big pay cuts to go to DAL. They lose half their seniority for pay and benefits and have to start over for travel.

Yes, but starting over at S3/S2 sure beats 25 years' seniority at S3C! Just curious, how do DAL payrates compare to ASA's on the ramp? I had imagined most people would be better off working for Delta.

But you have to pay the bills before you travel. This person said a 4 year ASA employee will have two years seniority at DAL and take a $4 per hour paycut. $640 dollars per month at that income level is huge, and it would take awhile to get back. I'd say the employees that are immigrants and are here so they can travel back home, and those who use the travel alot will bite the bullet. But for most it's just another job and they won't go to DAL and take a cut. I think they under estimated how many would actually go for the "work at DAL carrot". And no current DAL employees want to come to C & D and work 20-25 planes per shift, some simultaneously, when they can work 5 or 6 planes per shift on the other concourses.
