BBQ...

a little hole in the wall in the crapy side of town in KC that I cannot remember for the life of me!

If you can remember where it was in the city, I can probably give you the name. It wasn't Smokin' Joes was it?

Being a New York guy, I thought I knew all the good spots in Queens. I will have to give Don Pepe's a try. Thanks!

P.S.
Don't give a red cent to the stratosphere in LAS. carl icahn owns it.

TPA - There is also a Charlie's in TPA close to the airport, great steaks, And Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Bern's does have a tremendous wine list and the steaks are great.

APF - Somebody said Michelbob's in Naples, this place boasts the best ribs in US and they aren't lying, there pretty darn good, but they have strange hours.

FDJ- You will not be dissapointed... If it isn't the best Italian food you have ever eaten then I will buy you dinner anywhere of your choice. - Probably on my top 3 list of ALL time. Ask Don about Travolta and the others that swear by the food-

BUT... IF he was "allowed" to bid on TWA then 75+ years of tradition may still be around present day. I know he screwed the airline and employees once (badly) BUT TWA and a tradition very rich in history possibly would still be here today.. I think Compton really screwed the employees when he accepted the deal. He flies the 80 well but couldn't run the airline. A sad day for many when the TWA colors were lost.

KROC-

Dinosauers. Best **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** BBQ north of the Mason Dixon.
Located right downtown. You can smell it from Blocks away.

As a former TWA guy, I can assure you that icahn did FAR more harm to the company than Compton ever did. And I agree that it was a sad day when their colors disappeared. It was a great place to work, and they will always be special to me. However, let's keep that discussion on another thread. This one is too much fun.

I can't wait to try Don Pepe's.

Keep em coming guys.

I can't believe it took two pages to get someone to list Bern's in Tampa . . . . you guys probably couldn't aviate your way out of a wet paper take-home sack!

Bern's is the best because they:

1) Grow all of their own vegetables on their own hydroponic farm, and the waiters must work there first and learn the whole restaurant from the ground up.

2) You order your steak by cut, weight AND thickness, and they cut it to order. Like your filet to be two-inch butterfly? Fine. Like it to be a four-and-a-half inch-thick monster seared at a temperature that would melt the T-wheel on a JT-8? No problem.

3) Some of you panty-waisted war protesters on this board obviously prefer fish. Don't worry- your fish was not abused in the least; it was happily swimming in one of their 2500 gallon tanks in the kitchen right up until the time you placed your order.

4) They have the largest wine collection in the US, with over 250,000 bottles, some dating back to the 1700's.

5) The Dessert Rooms- a handful of private dessert rooms, each with a direct line to the piano player. They have Cognac available that is even older than some of Delta's most senior galley hags, and available at prices only a Delta heavy skipper could afford, but it takes an AirTran FO living on credit cards to actually order one . . . (Sorry, FDJ, just had to get that one in there).

6) The decor is best described as "Early Bordello", or, "Late DC-9".

7) If the 6 reasons above weren't enough, ask for a tour of the kitchen and the wine cellar, they are happy to provide it, and, if that's not enough to convince you, then just go to Outback, already!

Best dinner I've ever had was in Raleigh, NC (RDU). The ANGUS BARN has the best combination of food, atmosphere, and service I've ever had.

Best ribs- the RENDEZVOUS (MEM)

Best Mexican- PAPPASITOS (HOU)

Best Steaks- DEL FRISCO (APA)

For that one in a lifetime meal with your spouce- the FRENCH LAUNDRY (APC), you'll need a resevation about 1 year in advance, but its something you'll never forget (it is after all a 7 course meal).

It is almost breakfast time but I'm hungry for dinner!

SDF - Kunz's, Del Frisco's, and JohnE's
MEM- Rendezvous (unique) and Corky's
BUF- Anchor Bar (wings)
PHL (South Jersey) - The Library, or just about any diner
IND- Lotus Garden
CMH - Crossroad 55
MCO - Charley's, Cariera's, and Rossi's (Pizza)
JLN (Joplin, MO) - Fred and Red's

I'll second that, although I gathered from the discussion we were talking more about local places than chains.

So, if chains are included, the Outback off Arapahoe Road near APA serves a great meal at a fair price. We go to another Outback, in Aurora off I-225, not terribly far from DEN (DIA), at least twice a month. Good BBQ ribs, prime rib, and rack of lamb at the Outback, too. All are a great value.

In the same complex as the Outback in Aurora is a Hops restaurant. It prepares a good steak as well. Last October it ran a steak and bratwurst promotion. Delicious! Only that month for the bratwurst, though.

Trail Dust Steakhouse off I-25 is about two miles away from APA. It serves a good steak and is kind of a landmark. It is NOISY, however.

A lot of people brag about the Denver Chop House, which is downtown near Coors Field. Haven't been there. Pricey. A lot of professional sports team members eat at the Chop House. Not exactly in the typical commuter pilot's budget.

Some people like Ruth's Chris downtown. We have not tried it. I hear it's overrated.

I wrote about Sonoda's above for sushi. Sonoda's also serves a first-class filet mignon.

Texas Roadhouse in Arvada serves a good steak, too. Not terribly far from BJC.

Bon appetit!

An ex-student of mine once told me of the Diamond Caberet in Denver. Haven't been there yet, but he said I NEEDED to go.

In LBB:

Just your average steaks, but for a very good burger: MUTHERS.
Don't look at the menu, just sit down and order the Step-Muther. You can thank me later.

32 East in Delray Beach Fl
It's just north of BCT . Awewsome anything. The place changes the menu every day. Top notch food. A little too pricey for me now that I am on the Ramen noodle diet. Back in the good old days when I was making the cash selling aircraft parts (prior to deciding I was going to use my pilot license to be unemployed) we used to go there a lot.

The Ferry House in Freeport is awesome too.

TPA ...there is a steakhouse across from the stadium.....Can't remember the name Sam something or other.... Pretty good tho.

Daytona Beach.....The Ocean Deck......Food sucks but...lots of fun!!!

Oh He!! almost forgot......Another one is just outside of PBI, Rachel's.......If you havent been it is a a pretty nice strip bar and Steakhouse. T!tties & Steak. "Oh boy is this great"

Dukes-Waikiki-HNL-it has the good food-great girls-and a great place to hang out when your all burned out.

Sage Dinner-Queens-great food for the bucks-and it is open 24 hours.

Smoken Joes... me thinks that's it... is he supposed to be some old black dude? And the place is in a run down industrial area, a not far from the city theater?? Yeah, I think that's it.

Forget KC Masterpiece, you might be thinking about Gates Barbeque. There are a couple of different locations, but I think the one you're referring to is the one in KC, Kansas. Just west of the courthouse on 12th? St. The large combo comes with a free angioplasty.

Best barbeque I ever had - bar none - was in Talequah, OK at Sixkiller's Barbeque. You could not possibly pile more orgazmic quality barbeque on a plate than they do there.

Michelbob's is **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** good for Florida, though.

Fu%#lng censorship. Dam, dam, dam.

So there.

There is a place in Augusta that's good too, the name eludes me.. Not far from the Airport, a little mom and pop.. **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**, though, there are a lot of good BBQ spots accross this nation, even found one in Washington state once, close to Spokane..

I was thinking the same thing as some of the other posters... I can't believe it took so long to get to Burn's.

The dessert room is reason enough to go.....

Also, I'm more then a little surprised that I haven't see Dinosaur's in SYR and ROC posted yet!! IMO, one of the best BBQ in the country.

Also, Corky's in MEM for BBQ.

And since this is a pilot posting.... don't forget about the "Happy Hour" menu's at McCormick and Smidts (sp?) all over the country. Full size hamburgers, pizza's, etc.. for like $2. And they have great seafood if you want to eat for real.

I'll second the Duke's motion...ESPECIALLY on Sunday afternoons.

Best Pizza in HNL: Big Kahuna's, just mauka of the airport on Puuloa Rd.

Best Plate Lunch in HNL: Penny's (right next to Dancer's on Sand Island Access Road. You can carry your lunch over to Dancer's to watch the skanky ho's while you eat)

Best Ramen joint: Izo Giku (the one on University)

Best Milkshake: Ono Ono chocolate shake at KC diner.

Best Burger: Hard to beat the Kua Aina burger in Haleiwa (haven't tried the one behind Ward center)

Best shave ice: Matsumoto's

Best Pineapple: The one you bought from the lady on the side of the road.

Best Fish: The one you bought from the lady's kid two miles further down ther road sitting next to a sign that says "Fresh Ahi".

Best burrito: Maui Tacos

Best italian: Buca de Beppo

What have I forgotten?

Best Steak I know of----- Ye Olde Steak House on Chapman Highway in Knoxville.

Santarpios in East Boston----I think the owner is a really old guy that serves most of the pizza but you'd never know he's the owner. FlyDelta gives good directions although it's nowhere near the approach end of 22. That would be in Winthrop.

Seafood---- If in Boston, try The Chart House on Long Wharf. Some nice outdoor bars near there in the summer too. Could also try The Barking Crab in Boston for cheap seafood, good summer atmosphere too with an open air bar overlooking the financial district.

In San Fran I like The Stinking Rose. Everything made with Garlic. It's top-notch.

Hugh
For casual vittles try "The shack" in enchanted lakes

For a good steak there is a restaurant across from Kailua beach park. Its been about 11 years since I lived there so I can't remember the name but I can still taste the steak. If you know the name of it, let me know its killing me.

TUS - LIL' Abners Steakhouse - Great steaks and atmosphere.
TEB - Il' Vilaggio - Italian
HNL - Duke's
VNY - Dr. Hoggly Woggly's - BBQ - Great ribs
APF - Michelbobs
LAS - Delmonico Steak house - Emeril's place
LAS - Rum Jungle- great sight's after hours also!
EGE - Minturn Country club ( close to Avon on way to Vail) great steaks that you cook yourself.
FLL - Shula's on the beach
SPA - Ike's - for a greasy burger or fried bologna sandwich!
AGS - Sconyers - BBQ
ATL & ADS -Fog de Chao
PHL - Pat's cheesesteaks
DAL - Pappa's Bros. steak house.

and of course any Taco Bell!!

Well, if your going to promote your own product then I better say what wonderful place BUBBA's in JAC is !

Alright here goes,

Since I am from RI, i have to give PVD a shout-out and suggestions:

PVD seafood Legal Seafood by the airport and excellent chowda.

If you make it to the city of Providence 15 minutes north of the airport my friend is a chef at Mediterraneo. excellent italian food, pricy but worth it ask for Joel Henry tell him a pilot sent you. Anywhere on Federal Hill in providence will have great restaurants.

Also I have to second Santarpios in BOS, as an ex Cape-Air rampy they would treat us to this fine pizza every now and then and it was excellent

If you are on an expense account the best steak (filet Mignon) i have ever had was the Palm in SJU. I assume all the Palms are good though.

Also in SJU the Best meal I have EVER had was the tuna steak in a dark rum sauce at the Parrot Cafe. Outstanding!!

I also have to second the Montgomery Inn in CVG, BBQ to die for.

I am currently in CMI teaching and we have good pizza at Papa Dels (deep dish) and I really like Le Peep for breakfast. The menu is kind of out there but great.

Happy Eating
D

San Jose, CA

If you spend some time in San Jose, CA, I suggest a walk downtown or light rail, and a steak at Original Joes. Pricey but well worth it!

Twin Oaks

I dont believe I have actually. I might have to hit it up next time though. Its rated pretty highly.
what do you recommend

D

Ty,

I will HAVE to give that place a try! However, it makes me pretty nervous about your masculinity that the first thing you mentioned was the vegatables! What the heck is a vegatable doing in a steak house? I HOPE you meant baked potatos and maybe a little parsley!

I prefer to eat my vegatables like a real man. I let the cow eat them first, then I eat the cow!

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. It sounds like my idea of heaven!

Bern's...must remember that.

That reminds me of that Sienfeld show when Jerry takes that hot chick to that steak house and he tries to order a salad.

Chalk up another one for Berns also.

DAB- if you people are into Japanese steakhouses I've never had anything ccome close to Tekeya (SP?).
