Michigan is a classic example of the one of the most pro-union states in the country. It is also the one with the largest drop in population in the country, the largest loss of jobs

I don't suppose that has anything to due with the fact that all of the big three automakers were in the tank.

What will the republican candidates position be and why do unionized airline workers support republican candidates who are anti-labor?

All politicians are anti labor. What has Obama or any other politician done for labor. Big business gets them elected and big business rules.

Why do some airline employees vote Republican?

Answer: Because they are stupid. They live with their heads buried in the sand, not concerned with anything around them as long as it doesn't affect them personally at that moment in time. They research nothing. They listen to right-wing AM talk show bigots like Rush Limbaugh and get the rest of their distorted information from corporate controlled right-wing news organizations like Fox News - the mouthpiece of the Republican Party.

And then when pro-management scab material like Pilotyip come calling, along with other Republican corporate lapdogs like Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, the Tea Baggers, and the rest of the GOP House majority...to take away their worker and union rights, they sit there deaf and dumb wondering how this could have happened to them. Then they'll go on to defend their insane right wing political ideology as their career ship goes down, missing the point entirely as they exclaim in their last breath how "it's a right to work state".

"Right-To-Work" is a misnomer created by the Republican fear machine to cause dissention amongst the uneducated and apathetic that by somehow living in a certain state, that state gives you the right to work whereas other states do not. This is what the Republican party does best - Lie.

"Right-To-Work" is just a cover for its true meaning - To suppress or eliminate workers Right-To-Unionize.

The Republican Party has always been and will always be anti-union, anti-worker, anti-middle class. Their masters are the Corporations and the Rich. To vote for any Republican is to put a nail in your own coffin. They will NEVER have the People's best interests in mind, although they'll spin it 7 ways to Sunday to try to make you believe they do. The facts of history speak for themselves.

Typical left wing response. Anyone who doesn't agree with me is stupid. No substance just name calling. Can you name any democrats who have helped the aviation profession or tried to change the RLA. As someone said earlier...they are all the same.

Here is how the UAW did it; they reach a deal with a single company, then go to the next company and say match it or you will be shutdown and all the new cars being sold will be built someplace else, then they go to the next company and repeat. When the auto companies where rolling in money it was a good deal for all. But over the last 30 years it has eliminated 70% of the union jobs, gave great raise to non-union companies It goes back to a killer contract the companies were forced to accept back in 1993. They borrowed lots of money to pay the bills, kinda like living off your credit cards and then it was BK time. When you are in a cash flow pinch because of too much borrowing, a union strike threat is much akin to a bad guy holding a gun to your head and asking for your wallet, you give him your wallet. Because you might not lose your life right away.

All unions are not the same. Most aren't bound by the RLA. What happened to the auto makers was inevitable and the same thing is happening to the local and state govt's now. The country is broke from the top down and neither the left or the right has a plan to fix it. Tough times lie ahead.

Probably not, Incase you missed the article, but hey I am sure it is just a coinkedink aint it?:

DETROIT (WWJ) – According to a*****new report, 47 percent of Detroiters are *****”functionally illiterate.” The alarming new statistics*****were released*****by the Detroit Regional Workforce Fund on Wednesday.
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with the*****Fund’s Director, Karen Tyler-Ruiz, who explained exactly what this means.
“Not able to fill out basic forms, for getting a job — those types of basic everyday (things). Reading a prescription; what’s on the bottle, how many you should take… just your basic everyday tasks,” she said.
“I don’t really know how they get by, but they do. Are they getting by well? Well, that’s another question,” Tyler-Ruiz said.
Some of the Detroit suburbs also have high numbers of functionally illiterate: 34 percent in Pontiac and 24 percent in Southfield.**********
“For other major urban areas, we are a little bit on the high side… We compare, slightly higher, to Washington D.C.’s urban population, in*****certain ZIP codes in Washington D.C. and in Cleveland,” she said.
Tyler-Ruiz said only 10 percent of those who can’t read have gotten any help to resolve it.
The report will be used to provide better training for local workers.

Well here's to hoping that Sarah Palin or Donald Trump is the best the GOP can come up with.

The original post in this thread has a couple of things mixed up. The NLRB didn't recently change a rule on how voting takes place. They've always had voting the normal way, with a non-vote not counting as a vote against. Nobody is challenging their voting system, either. The article that was linked was talking about the Boeing dispute, which isn't related to voting, it's related to the location of the factory and Boeing's motivation to put it there.

The voting dispute is a separate issue, and it deals with the National Mediation Board (NMB), not the NLRB. The NMB recently changed the voting rules to match the NLRB's rules, and the Republicans are trying to change it back to screw over airline and railroad labor.

SURE AS HELL BEATS THE ONE THE DEMS ARE STANDING BEHIND.....AND THEY SUCK! Sad state of affairs

Too many in our ranks think like this- over-emotional ranters against our own best interests.
Agree, we are our own worst enemy. We can't continue to operate like this politically. Either convince the GOP that we are worth making an exception to their union beliefs- or vote democrat, and make damn sure they know the only reason they got your vote is support of our unions- or decertify our unions and open everyone's positions to free market competition. Then live with the result. At least then you all wouldn't be hypocrits.

If you vote GOP and start to think about some others contribution to the 'race to the bottom', stop- look in the mirror and know there was no other consequence.

Please provide examples how this administration or any other liberal administration has helped this profession. You like to think that the left is not controlled by big business. Who is Obama's biggest contributor. What improvements have you seen since 2008? Once again... no substance and all name calling. Everyone who disagrees with you is stupid? Besides, our careers are not the only thing that drives votes. Believe it or not we are not the center of the universe.

I keep forgetting how wonderful things were under 8 years of GW, and a GOP controlled congress.
