Question for US Air and AWA Pilots

What about the new 757 flying and recalls since the merger was completed, doesn't sound too static to me.

Well even when the recalls happened. They had a reduction of like 25 positions. Just they had more leave (60/early/whatever) then they had left, hence the 55 recalls. The bid after the 55 recalls, resulted in the loss of 35 more positions. Which I believe that bid has been rolled over three months now.....dunno....

Also, have to remember, those that are "upgrades" are kinda just going back to the seat they had at one time. There is some movement I believe left and right, as guys changes bases or positions, trying to follow time or lines or something.....

What are your thoughts on the flow through agreement for Piedmont and PSA pilots? Will it ever happen? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel for us?? How long is it going to take for Mainline to recall all of its furloughs?

A light at the end of the tunnel is to get more hours and apply to other airlines.

The flow through mentality was alive and kicking when I was there in '98. Just think, some of the guys you fly with have been crying about flow throughs for at least 8+ years. Typical day in 1998. "I heard we might get a flow through soon. I hope we get rjs too." ........Present day..."What are your thoughts on a flow through? I guess we're not getting the rjs, huh? What about those Dash 8 400s? We'll make up fake write ups and ground these 100's if AWAC gets those 400s!"

On a similar note, some of the bitter 50+ year old dudes are a bad influence on the more junior types. They are "lifers" and bitch and moan for hours about flow throughs, or how they should merge with mainline and have date of hire integration. (true) How do you spell it...dilusional? I guess this sounds like a Dennis Miller rant without all the fancy vocabulary nobody understands. That place made me bitter. Basically, this post reminded me of crew rooms where the crusties would spout garbage, and the junior guys would eat up every word of it.

will the feelings observed on these boards ever die? Even after the "merger synergies" are realized? I've seen the U/PI battles rage on years after their merger....how many years will this go on?

In addition, will it carry over to the other employee groups....F/A's...mechanics....gate agents....etc.....our group vs. their group.

This is the exact kind of post that gets east blood boiling. I dont care what anyones opinion of who saved who is. The bottom line is you are complaining about how your upgrades are not to your liking while there are thousands of east pilots on the street and thousands more that have been downgraded and lost half their pay as well.
I know the misfortunes in the East are not the fault of the West in any way, but for crying out loud complaining that your upgrades have stopped is not going to sit well with a guy who has 15 years at U and will probably end up being junior to you. The arbitrator will hose the East in due course, why cant you guys just let it at that, and quit rubbing salt in the fresh wounds.

The pensions are gone, so its worth nothing and will never kick in!

The stock options are also gone via the 2nd bankruptcy. All that remained is a couple of grand worth. Better than nothing I guess but what can you do with 2 or 3 grand mr. financial genious?

I agree with what you are saying , but how do you explain people like "Be Careful" who thinks the only one who will benefit from this "flusterkluck" is the average AWA pilot? Seems to me the only one who will benefit from this is the average USAir pilot. After all,unless your furloughed,you're still working and doing something you at one time enjoyed,are you not? And if you're not exactly thrilled with the money your making,well guess what...?? Neither are we !! You cant possibly expect someone that has lost his pension, had his pay cut in half, been downgraded, and can look foward to being junior to a guy hired last year to be happy about it. I was only asking that people refrain from rubbing their noses in it. The West guys WILL be the benefactors from this deal as no matter what the arbitrator does the West Will hold most of the senior spots in 10 years. that is not sour grapes its just the way it is. mostly because so many of U pilots are still furloughed. That is just my opinion, we will see who is correct in a few years when we look at the new list. No matter what our individual opinions are, this mess will be sorted out by the arbitrator and there is nothing you, I , or any other guy on this board can do about it. Maybe if we all try to take the high road and stop slamming the other guy or his company this crap will taper off.

On a unrelated note did you used to work for ALG?

How about the council 41 guys whining about the call sign Cactus? Or what about the U guys demanding all the upgrades because they were displaced and have first rights back to thier seat? ITS not the same USAirways anymore. How about the furloghees wanting date of hire, something like 1988 but have perhaps a total of 3 years on the property? As a west guy, I don't think either side has a corner on the whining market. Of course I can't say that I've talked to a lot of east guys, only about 2 in the last 13 years have even acknowledged my presence anywhere. I'll leave it at that. Lately, though, I have flown with 3 furloughees from '99, and met a couple of others, and they all have been great pilots and nice people. Come to think of it, the east furloughees I just mentioned did not whine or complain about anything at all. Maybe the rest of us on both coasts should follow their lead and shut up now.

I really agree with most of what you say,except for your claim that most of us will hold the senior spots 10 years down the road. You guys think we just parked our skateboards yesterday when the reality is must of us are in our late 40's,early 50's . So to say that most of us will hold the "senior slots" as you like to call them, I really don't think so.Regarding "slamming the other guy,or his company" , I think the only way that even has a snowballs chance in hell of happening is if we all find "Be Careful" and put a muzzle on him!! His absolute disgust and disdain for anything AWA knows no bounds and I'm beginning to wonder if extends beyond merger related issues. And to answer your last question. No, I didn't work for ALG. I don't know...Maybe it has something to do with the petty name calling like "financial genius" in posts like yours ? Regarding pensions,doesn't the PBCG cover the furloughed employees? After all there are quite a few with 10+years senority that lost their jobs.Granted, it isn't much when compared to the pensions that were lost, but for those who never had one,anything is an improvement.
