That looks really good (right down to the PS tail number). However, the smile still looked better on the 80s and 727s.

Nice. I'll bet PSA is now the only regional airline to have its logo displayed on the tail of its mainline partner. :-)

Lol... Piedmont and Allhegeny to follow, not sure when. I like it, its a nice gesture to the history of this airline.
 
I like it (my dad flew for PSA, back in the 20th century). I'm all for any airline honoring its own history.

The colors look off to me, though -- maybe it's just my screen.
 
That is a good site, boost. I noticed in their Guest Book that the retro PSA plane will go to San Diego this week. That'll make a few folks all teary-eyed.
 
I just can't believe that USAir did away with the smile or that no one has used one since. Maybe it was growing up around aviation in Southern Cal, but airplanes with a smile still make me do the same. I can't tell you how many times I have heard the comment "It is too bad that USAir was not bought by PSA (or Piedmont for that matter) instead of the other way around.
PSA was great though I am still partial to another SoCal Airline based out of John Wayne Orange County and now part of AA. Anybody remember AirCal?

Leave it to U.S. Airways to destroy perfectly good airlines. PSA, Allegheny, Piedmont. All murdered by Airways. Is america west next? We'll see.

How do painting airplanes and furloughs relate to each other? The airlines have their airplanes on a 3-5 year paint schedule....they are gonna get painted no matter what.

Now, you get a new airplane delivered, and if you let the builder know early enough, you can also get it painted any way you want. Who exactly took delivery of this aircraft? Is it a US Airways aircraft or is it a America West aircraft? Who ordered it?

I can stil remember the rants when UAL, while in BK, started with their new paint scheme. Again, its gonna get paint on it....the owner just decides what color.

That's really sweet. I like seeing some of those old retro liveries show up again.

At Delta we repainted our 'Sprit of Delta' 767-200 in the old paint job (and retired the aircraft to the DL museum). I realize it's only been a few years but I miss the old livery already.

I saw that one sitting at the hangar the other day. Looked real nice in the shiny new old paint job.
 
I'd rather see the smiles on the crews. Actually I'd just rather see crews looking like they did at the original PSA.

Actually, Allegheny was the predecessor to US Airways. However they did have a merger with Mohawk airlines.

Allegheney changed their name to US Air after deregulation since they had now started flying out of their old Ohio valley markets and were now going to exotic places like LAX and SFO.

Now, US Air did have mergers with PSA and Piedmont and the old Eastern/Trump Shuttle. And, yes you are correct in that those mergers were badly handled from an employee standpoint.

the arrogant US Air management never thought that they had to have the "buy in" from the aquired employees. They figured all they had to do was say, "We bought you...you didn't buy us", and that would be the end of it. Even if the employee had a better idea or if it would save the company money....if you weren't management, there was no way one could have a good idea. Just ask Stephen Wolf.

Today's US Airways only has one VP from the old US Airways....maybe thats why the employees have such a better outlook....it's all AWA management calling the shots and <horrors> communicating with the employees, making them think that they are part of the team....Dave Siegel/Stephen Wolf/Rakesh Gangwal/"Butch" Schofield/Ed Colodny would've never done it this way.

I definitely think it's a great gesture. I grew up under the approach path for runway 8 at BUR. I saw more PSA & AirCal aircraft than anything else. Nice to see a classic scheme airborne again. As cool as it is, it would've been cooler if they would've ditched the US Air titles and done PSA on everything. JMHO.

How bout while we are reviving the past we bring back Braniff and the Dulles to DFW Concorde flights.

Nordhoff & Woodley across the street from the James Monroe High School. I also remember seeing CV-880s flying into VNY in 81 & 82.

Grew up near Nordhoff and Wilbur. Still live in the Valley, though I'm not sure I'll be able to stand staying here more than just a few more years.
