...is ALPA trying to destroy Southwest maybe?

I hate to admit it, but that's not an altogether crazy idea. Even coming from Bob. ALPA could force a "USAPA/USAIR" situation and destroy one of their biggest competitors. Pilots in the crossfire be damned. Either way I'm putting my money on ego ultimately ruining this deal and "Good 'ol SWA" becoming but a shell of what it was prior to the AirTran acquisition.

When you get ideas like this, you have to remember who's actually in the room negotiating this.

It's not an ALPA attorney.

It's 4 line pilots who will have to work the rest of their career in the combined airline. They're not getting some crazy ALPA super-secret fund to retire on or getting jobs in Herndon; they'll be going back to the line when it's all done.

They are just as heavily vested in a happy workplace as the rest of us when the dust settles, so give them a chance to see what they can come up with. Even if it goes to arbitration, it's in OUR hands how we handle the award, one way or the other, when it's all done. The only thing we have control over is ourselves and our own attitudes.

Ya'll fly safe now. :)

LOL Nice. ;)

Yup, back then they did. Now it's a much closer gap. I'm sure it'll come up in negotiations; we'll find out 3-6 months from now just how much weight it was given.

Until then, ya'll fly safe out there. :)
What the gap between 4yr Fo pay and 4th yr AAI pay?...lol Just busting your balls.

Actually, I'm afraid it won't matter that the gap is closer now than it was since we basically agreed to work from the contract in force on Sept 26.

From the Process Agreement:
They shall also exchange with each other, but not with the Companies (unless specifically requested to do so by the Companies), all collective bargaining agreements in effect on the date of the Merger
Announcement (September 26, 2010)

That, along with the implied penalties of not reaching a negotiated deal (pay, benefits, etc), are two of the reasons why I can't understand why some thought the Process Agreement was a job well done for us.

For us? You're a Southwest pilot. Your earlier posts gave you away a long time ago.

Um, no, we didn't.

From the Process Agreement:

You might want to read the whole paragraph next time instead of just a portion of a sentence. If you had kept reading, you would have seen that the Process Agreement also requires all current CBAs, LOA, MOUs, System Board Awards, etc. to be exchanged.

How does that work? I mean isn't a snapshot a snapshot of everything at the time?

Would it be OK if Southwest passed a new CBA tomorrow with a 50% pay increase? Would that hold water with the arbitor? Would he care?

I think he probably would rely more on what was going on when the deal was announced, and maybe realize that the Airtran deal was done quickly after the announcement. It wasn't done in a vacuum, with no SW deal on the table.

Sorry to disappoint you, but there were only two sections still open (out of 20) at the time the deal was announced.

Btw, I got a whopping 8% raise. I'm sure the Arbitrator will be impressed how we dragged the ball over the finish line.
