Hiring street captains and fly-by-night mortgage companies should both be illegal. They allow people to put themselves in bad situations and bitch about it to everyone they work with for the next three years. It does look like two new hire pilots were awarded captain on the last revised vacancy. So yes, it looks to be true. And there will be alot more.

They were hired as FO's but met the upgrade requirements and were awarded the bid while in training.

Whats wrong with hiring street captains??? Especially if you are short on qualified pilots. The regionals put this on themselves, they constantly lower their minimums and then they cant upgrade their FO's. If you were sitting in the back would you rather have a 1500 hour captain or a 5000 hour captain. C'mon man there is nothing wrong with hiring street captains.

Street Captains are fine as long as they are properly qualified. We've hired some highly experienced street Captains in the past (frequent poster Lear70 was one of them), but we've also hired guys that have no business being in the left seat of a CRJ. For instance, in the last round of street Captains, we hired one guy whose only turbine time was in Metroliners. Sorry, but if you have zero jet time, then you don't belong in the left seat of a CRJ.

I am all for a street captain if he/she has at lease 5000 hours and 500 of which were in the CRJ

I agree with you 100%. If the candidate doesn't have some pic jet time, and when I say some I mean like at least 500 to 1000 hours pic. I don't necessarily think the candidate has to have CRJ time.. I don't think a CRJ is any harder or more complex as a GIV or Falcon 900. But you are correct, the candidate should have pic jet time..

Agreed. Captains at the majors frequently upgrade to bigger equipment that they have never flown before. What's important is the jet experience, not the time in type.

Will someone refresh my memory? What are the upgrade requirements at Pinnacle? How is it possible that half the pilot group isn't qualified for upgrade but a new-hire is?

What's important is 121 PIC. I train plenty of new captains who have been in the right seat for only 2yrs and an astonishing number of them wash out. If Pinnacle is hiring off the street then I hope the training department is responsible enough to fail those that aren't really ready. As long as there is good oversight we should all be safe.

Oh come on I used to work there, the training dept. there is at best below par. All that company is looking for is bodys for fill seats for low wages. Are they paying anything for your time in training yet? Or are they still getting suckers that don't mind no pay. (I can say this when I was there I got nothing, not even a hotel, when I left I heard they were giving a hotel and 200 before taxes.) Has this gotten any better yet?

than a guy with 4000 hours and 1000 hours turboprob PIC.

Time in type is the most important.

3500TT 2000ME 3500 reducible to 3000 if you have 500 in company!
