bert- you must be getting close to upgrade? I know you'll do well.

Hey Rook- you in the DC-10 or MD-11 these days?

How's that Maddog treating ya? Planning on moving down to the ATL?

I'm in NYC on the doggy. IOE starts next week.

I'll move down to ATL once I become a career reserve pilot on the 76/75 this summer, haha.

Breaks my heart P-nuck...

-11. Right now I'm in the L.B.C. chllin' with Snoop and Nate Dogg (of course by Snoop I mean my sim partner, and Nate Dogg is our FTD instructor). Miss the DT-dub hub but right now I wouldn't trade this for anything...unless of course I was ending up retiring from DAL as numero uno... you guys take care.

I don't necessarily think the candidate has to have CRJ time.. I don't think a CRJ is any harder or more complex as a GIV or Falcon 900. But you are correct, the candidate should have pic jet time..
You show me a guy willing to leave a GIV or Falcon900 job for a job at Pinnical, and I will personally come kick is arse.

Street Captains are fine as long as they are properly qualified. We've hired some highly experienced street Captains in the past (frequent poster Lear70 was one of them), but we've also hired guys that have no business being in the left seat of a CRJ. For instance, in the last round of street Captains, we hired one guy whose only turbine time was in Metroliners. Sorry, but if you have zero jet time, then you don't belong in the left seat of a CRJ.

WOW! Would you please publish your wisdom on 9E hiring 200 hr fo's....I'd like to hear if you...opps they have any buisness being in the right seat

The whole GIA thing has been beat to death Ridge. When I was a 9E guy, I had 200hr kids from ATP's and guys with single pilot Baron time in the 1500hr range. If they pass the check ride then they still have to get through IOE. There were 200hr guys that were ready for line ops right away and some more 'experienced' guys that I couldn't sign off. And I'm a pretty laid-back bro. My (and I assume other check airman) decision on whether or not IOE would be completed would be if I could trust this kid when their CA is... being a tool/incapacitated/locked out of the cockpit/whatever, then I'd sign them off. We can't always have ideal conditions for training, like bad weather, diversions, and the like; but we would quiz them and give them scenarios to make them think logically for different situations.

They come from the sim being great at V-1 cuts, S.E. go arounds/approaches but we all know that the line environment is a different animal.

It's an entirely different type of flying!
Altogether!

I have no problem with 9E hiring low-time FOs. There's a big difference between SIC and PIC.

By the way, I had about 1000 hours when I came to 9E, if memory serves. I flight instructed and flew at GIA before coming here.

If I didn't say it before..Congrats to you for the move! I thought you were going to hold out for something purple (haha)! Hey, I start class on the 23rd of April for a DTW slot, but I will keep the MEM bid in until it opens. If you talk to Joe...send a Hello. I tried to call him but no answer. He must have been screning calls.

Thanks for the kudos. There were a lot of guys who had a LOT of PIC time in some pretty big stuff in our class (everything from Falcons to 747's). It was a self-taught firehose, but it wasn't impossible.

The airplane is actually pretty easy to fly - it's the decision making and staying several steps ahead of the airplane that's the hard part. A jet is a jet is a jet in most cases.

The transitioning PCL turboprop guys, for the most part, did pretty well once they figured out the V1 cuts and steep turns - "It's a totally different kind of flying."

;)

id rather have a guy in the left seat with 2500 tt and 1500 hours CRJ

than a guy with 4000 hours and 1000 hours turboprob PIC.
Spoken like a true PCL F/O who thinks they should upgrade NOW...

When you get about 2 or 3 years in the left seat of the CRJ, come talk to us and we'll compare notes on decision-making skill sets.

Thank God the upgrade mins are still in place - hope the new Chief Pilot they hire will stay strong on that as well... one of the things that Terry did that was 100% correct.

p.s. PCL, when are you putting your stuff in at the Tranny?

p.s.s. Rook, when you get down to the ATL, you best be showin' some brotherly love and picking up that phone. Called you yesterday, so I KNOW you got my digits... :D

Hey L70,

Didn't check my voicemails until about 10 pm last night. Been burnin' the midnite oil getting ready for this oral on Tues. Hope all is well. Sux about the drive you had yesterday. When is AirTran gonna start BNA-ATL?
When we pay the BNA Airport Authority the $250,000 in runway damage, early lease cancellations, and penalties we owe them from 2001.

Some goober CA here couldn't get the gear to retract after takeoff, so HE PULLED THE MANUAL OVERRIDE AND BROUGHT IT UP ANYWAY, bending the mechanism (there was a REASON it wouldn't come up).

NEVER pulled out the QRH or a checklist and elected TO CONTINUE TO NASHVILLE instead of returning to ATL. Landed left main gear up, skidded to the side, and took out 1,000 feet of runway lights.

BRILLIANT!!

They pulled out and haven't been back since. Now that it's a Southwest fortress, it decreases the likelihood we'll go in anytime soon... We don't go head to head with Southwest on ANY routes, one of the main premises of our current leadership here at AAI.

Give me a shout sometime early mornings this week if you're around. Have late evening flying (until 11 every night) the next 3 days. 18 hours in DAY tonight, 21 hours in PNS on the beach tomorrow night!

Sounds good now, but I'm sure you'll be rubbing in the 20-30 hour layovers in Europe, Asia, and other glamorously cool places. ;)

Well the street Captain thing must be true.... I shot a resume Friday afternoon, and got an email today (monday) with an interview invite... Was actually thinking about it until I saw that they only give you 1200 a month while in training.... That barely pays my house note... Think Ill be passing on that job....

The CA pay isnt half bad... I was on 3rd year pay and made close to 70,000. Not bad for a 24/25 year old bachelor.

Training is only 2 months. If you focus only on the now and immediate, how can you plan on the future?

falconpilot, if you have a GOOD corporate job fling any one of those Falcons on your list, especially the 900, and you leave to get into the REGIONAL airline world, I'll be happy to join the lineup b*tch-slapping your stupid a*s.

Seriously, man, WTF are you THINKING??!!

Or maybe it was just a big joke (and a slam on PCL pay, which is well-deserved), in which case I apologize. Humorous sarcasm doesn't translate well over these boards... :)

p.s. PCL, when are you putting your stuff in at the Tranny?

My stuff was in last summer as soon as I crossed the 500 121-PIC mark! Now I've got over a 1000, been to two Air Inc fairs, and had three AirTran guys walk my stuff in and recommend me to SG. Still can't get a dang call!!! I don't know what the deal is. If you've got any advice, I'd love to hear it. Driving 25 minutes from my house to the employee lot in ATL sounds a heck of a lot better than my ATL-DTW commute from hell. :)
