PCL proposes to increase FO pay

As suspected, the company sent these letters to the home addresses of all First Officers to try and illicit the help of those at home. Unbelievable.

The union's response was to enter into accelerated negotiations to solve all open section. The company says the union is bargaining in bad faith!

Next up, the company will sent out letters to all non-union employees and tell them that 'we tried to give them more money but they turned it down'.

Wait and see. You heard it hear first.

Did managment honestly think that the pilot group would accept the FO rate raise? Consider the following:

If the rates were accepted:
1. They just ratified rates that are well below industry average.
2. Managment obtains a recruiting tool

If the rates are rejected:
1. Shows the Mediator that managment is attempting to bring something to the table.
2. Pits new FOs and established union pilots against each other
3. Allows managment to begin a propaganda campaign against the union. This includes all other employees of the company.

This leads me to a point: this proposal was set up to intentionally fail. It was a win-win. If they got the union to sign on, boom - there's the raise, and for cheap. If not, they've got a very effective wedge tool and a "greedy pilot" story.

Let's see what the union has in response. Well played, sirs. Well played.
 
Don't give them too much credit. Phildo and friends are just following the age-old anti-labor play book. Nothing creative or original here. Phildo is too busy getting all dressed up for his next Memphis high-society (such as it is, anyway) party. He doesn't have time to actually earn his ridiculous paycheck by thinking up these strategies all on his own.

The mediator is there to help the two parties agree on a NEW contract. This proposal would be an amendment to the OLD contract and has nothing to do with the current mediated sessions. If anything, a smart mediator would see this as an attempt to avoid negotiating a NEW agreement.

Neither did ASA's. We started to FLY SAFE. That's when things changed. I strongly encourage the Pinnacle Pilots to make sure everything is as it should be when they walk on their flight decks. Make sure everything is working properly at all times. That's just doing your job and there isn't a dam thing Mgmt. or the FAA can do to you for it.
