Misusing the word "scab" only cheapens the meaning and lessens the importance to when it really is applicable. Just because there is a flightinfo modern day usage, doesnt change a real meaning.

Never saw anything about the wage BS you posted either. Nice try.

Definitions of scab on the Web:
[SIZE=-1]form a scab; "the wounds will eventually scab"
someone who works (or provides workers) during a strike
the crustlike surface of a healing skin lesion
fink: take the place of work of someone on strike

Oh so what is it?

I asked before and you dodged the question.

Obviously you dont have enough to use the word 'scab' correctly with out spin.

then you alter the definition.

Guess you're trolling too.

yeah, 20 posts and nothing but confrontation.....

I see this thread going downhill........real quick......

Good job guys......

Last upgrade at Pinnacle was a april 05 hire. 20 months to make 65k+. Still pretty pathetic wages however. There is another 30 or so upgrades next month that could go down to 14-18 months possibly.

Excuse me.....$65,000 is pathetic for 20 months on the job????

Whatever you are smoking...let me have some.

Substitute teaching. Most school systems pay $50 to $80 a day. Extremely flexible. An automated system calls you, gives you the job info and you press 1 for accept or 2 for decline, in a nutshell. You can call the system and input days that you are not available. Pretty simple stuff. Most school systems have a difficult time getting subs, I get called constantly. I normally fly 85-90 hours a month, I usually do not pick up extra trips, I am away from home enough with commuting so this works well for me. Also its a great way to save money, invest it, and build up an emergency fund so when the industry craps itself again you will be in a good position.

Yes, I have read the other posts, pay is low, professional pilots shouldn't have to have a second job etc. I am well aware of and I believe that BUT when you have 13-15 days off a month that extra money lets you make an extra payement on the car or mortgage so that you can get completely out of debt and then you won't have to have that second job.

Good luck.

Be a substitute teacher

Substitute teachers make $85-125/day in my area. You are eligible if you have a college degree. Even better, you can hum The Who's "Substitute" as you go to work knowing that this song was written for you! Nice part is, you are never committed, its one day at a time and there is always a shortage.

What area are you in? That is good pay for as easy as the job is. In my area the more money you make the worse the school system is.

I have had a great time subbing. Its almost like being on reserve yet you have total control over your schedule.

And yes, "Substitute" has run through my head many times...great song, great group

Tell me IMMELMAN, Who's upgrading after a couple of years? And don't say Great Lakes. Be careful how much cool-aid you drink because in the regionals, you still going to be left feeling very thirsty. I am very aware of what mgmt tells their new hires during INDOC, they say what they feel is necessary to keep employees motivated, smiling, upbeat, etc, etc,. Mgmt's job is easier when less FO's quit.

At least the Great Lakes pilots can get their 1000 pic turbine, a little extra time in the log book, and then a job at SWA, Jetblue, or Spirit, and in some cases UPS, or FedEx.

Yo Hawk, heres a short list which is pretty close:

air whiskey - feb 04
republic - jan 05
colgan - aug 05
commute air - < 2yrs
pinnacle - april 05
skyway - jun 05
trans states - jan 04

Five pages into it and I think I counted two maybe three legitimate answers to the guy's original question. All he wanted to know was if anybody had any good ideas about how to make some extra money.....geez.

What a bunch of spoiled, weak-minded, whiners you are. Go get some perspective. I assure you that at any given moment someone else is having a far worse day than you.

Who's talking about making 100K? I'm talking about having enough money to pay for a place to live, some food to eat and to pay bills. There is no way I could live on 22K a year. I think that the minimum acceptable salary for a professional is 30K/yr.

as I said, what makes you think you deserve more than 22k your first yr. And i know you mean first yr because at your second yr your grossing more than that. Most first yr fo's barely know there ass from there elbow year 1. there is a learning curve son, all industries have them. Ours is just a little more pronounced.

I was just wondering if anybody has found anything worth while that 135/121 guys can do on the side for extra income?? Legitimate employment??

Don't worry about it anymore. The FAA approved the 65 year old rule. Now you have 5 more years to make your CEO rich, er, I mean, to make up pay....

Soo...... back to the origional question, any legit sources of income for pilots? Only on FlightInfo.... man I love it.

Why yes. You can BOHICA on the street corner like a good US regional pilot does. Maybe give hand jobs in the bathroom at the airport in between flights. You might even get a tip! I heard you can make good coin in SFO, just watch your six.

you get what you pay for. perhaps more knowledgable candidates could be attracted with a higher salary?

I also substitute teach on the side.. im in florida and it brings in 80$ a day before taxes.. If you can find a superintendent school or a private school it pays in the range of 100$ a day.. Along with my W2 this year i also found out that they automatically deduct 7.5% of my income(tax sheltered) and put it into a 401k.. its nothing big but its something!!

Also, Ive got a friend that owns a casino party business.. They cater to charities, organizations, whoever that want a casino themed party.. you show up an hour before the party and deal blackjack, poker, roulette and craps.. Parties usually run about 3 hours and it never pays less than 25$ an hour!! Sometimes you get tips too! I was comped the training for it but otherwise it should cost a couple hundred bucks for the training.. During the holiday season ill easily pull in a couple hundred bucks a week.. During the downseason they act as a HR hub for other party companies and call you for random jobs usually on the weekends setting up parties or catering banquets.. I know this is a unique situation but a good site to check out random gigs like this one would be on www.craigslist.com search jobs and youll find something you can do no matter how minimal your training in other feilds..

just like any other profession there are numerous sources of part time income.
deliver pizza's, change urinal cakes, work at home depot, whatever blows your skirt up.

Don't forget cleaning video booths at porn stores, Cleaning Gay bathhouses in San Francisco, and taking the trash out at abortion clinics.

However keep in mind that the capacity of planes flying now in at the regionals, used to be at the majors. While 20 years ago regionals paid crap too, the flying could have been in a Navajo, or a B99 if one was lucky, maybe a Shorts too.

Now it is 70-90 seat jets. Too many people think the size of the jet counts as part of the income somehow. I could be happy flying a C172 for good pay in a good location. Its just an airplane, not a key to happiness.

It's crazy but I'd have to be a 15 year captain at Horizon flying the Q400 to break what I make flying a 182. I still have the advantage though, I get paid from the minute the hanger door opens until it closes. Yes, I'm happy to "supplement" my crappy income:) Some months I supplement more than I "earn". My wife sometimes ask why I just don't go to work full time for my client. I just don't have the heart to tell her that right now I'm a stupid regional airline pilot without SJS.

You are entitled to your opinion. My opinion is that it is pathetic. It is not 20 months from your first day out of college like an engineer. For most of us it was 3 years or more just to get the job in the first place. 65K is not much money. I have made much more than that before I was a pilot and I can say it goes very fast. I thought you considered yourself a professional pilot with peoples lives at stake.
