Pan Am Closing Florida Flight School

Any "official" word yet on what happened to the arrow they put in the dirt a mile short of rwy 9 back in Jan 04?

I was on freq with Miami when that thing went missing.

My good friend knows the girl that lived, she was in the back seat. According to her they were "taking a peak" trying to get home.

Just to clarify; Pam Am flight school and the former "PAN AM" airlines are (were) completely different. The former Pan AM airlines was based out of Sanford, FL amd Portsmouth, NH and flew 727s. They are no longer in existence, as their certificate was turned in to FAA on 1 Nov 2004. However, the alter ego airline of Pan Am; Boston Maine Airways;, is still flying the 727s with the Pan Am logo on it. Same managment, just a different name. And of course different work rules.

As for the Pan Am flight school in FL, not related at all! I think it was named Pan Am Flight Academy, but not sure.

I didn't realize until I got last months issue of Business/Commercial Aviation that one of Pan Am's Seminoles from the DVT campus got radar vectored into the side of a mountain outside the Julian VOR in SoCal - Killing all aboard. What a tragedy.

so who is at fault? ATC for bad vectors or was the pilot at the wrong altitude? That is a sad story, nonetheless.

If I remember correctly, it was two similar aircraft #'s (323PA vs. 322PA) and accident aircraft took a decent intended for the other guy.

I was trying to get into Ft Pierce that night and asos was calling VV100 and vis down to something like 2. We turned back and landed at MCO and waited out the fog bank that was rolling up.

Landed the next morning over power line trucks, NTSB, and one wrecked arrow. Bad deal.

Ok you guys are now talking about two seperate Pan Am accidents.

The first one was in FPR. 3 people onboard the aircraft at the time, Student, Instructor, and one student backseating. They were on their way back from PBI. They went below the glide slope on the approach and clipped some power lines short of the runway. Instructor was a great guy and a former student of mine. He just recently became a new father before this.

The second accident (which was bound to happen with the numbering scheme at Pan Am ) occured from the DVT campus. Several Pan Am seminoles were IFR to CA. The controller instructed a 4PA to descend and the wrong one descended.

The FPR campus is a beautiful facility but management at that campus was HORRIBLE. They ran a good thing into the ground. Just go to jetcareers.com and look at the Pan Am school forum and see.

Well everyone, if you were paying $141.29 every month to remind you of the mistake you made at Pan Am you'd have to laugh. i just laugh with a realistic description of how I feel towards that program. They advertise on TV on the Military Channel and they continue to promise students faster farther and for sure. What the hell is that all about? Faster into debt, you bet...and for sure.

There better not be one of you who stands by and defends these morons. I'm a current CFI for a great place that cares for its students. We are a brotherhood and we deeply care about the future of our aviators. Pan Scam is nothing more than a cess pool of dishonesty. I'm not bitter. I made the mistake of going there for one ticket; I'm responsible for my decisions. I just now discourage anyone who feels that they need to hurry up and get everything in 12 months so they can take a $17,000 a year regional airline job while paying off a $60,000 debt. Where is the sensibility in that?

Go to Arizona, fly daily in an overheated boxcar and shoot approaches with some the US's crabbiest Class Bravo ATCs. Feel free to get continuous Part 141 stage checks that have been designed to keep the VA students in the same place, donating your hard earned military money, to the schmucks who run the accounting department. I never saw my refund checks and I suspect there will be lawsuits shortly.

Pan Am is reaping a karmic debt. I wish them all the best. I wish you all the best as well.

Hey you should feel blessed, most everyone I know that went there and stuck it out is paying over $500-600 a month in loan repayments!
