Buddy of mine had an AA intern on the j/s last week... the intern told him that informal phone calls were being made to furloughees so that they could gauge how many were coming back. These phone calls were being made in supposed anticipation of a recall this fall. The number they came up with was 1 out of 3 or 4 that would coming back.

Hope it's true...

On the other side of the coin, heard that if PBS gets approved, recalls could be delayed for a while. Even heard the F word thrown out there, but I don't want to be the medium for such a rumor.

What's the latest on PBS?

With the instability in the industry, my guess would be 1 in 6 would accept a recall. An informal poll where I currently work (15 furloughees) indicates ZERO would return immediately, possibly 2 would return at all. Several are at an age where it doesn't make sense to go back, where as the other 2/3 have settled into a non-aviation career. I'm still debating, but if called today, I would say "No thanks!"

I will return if/when the industry returns to better wages and much better work rules/quality of life. Being home every night with a semi-decent pay check certainly has it's advantages.

This sounds like the FedEx "practice bids" where some change their bid just to influence other bidding members

(Checking my messages...)

Nope. No call from AA. Guess they aren't calling people more than 500 numbers away from recall. ;) TC

P.S.--Or maybe they read FI.com...

The scene from Pulp Fiction, where Travolta is driving Uma over to the drug dealers house after she just OD'd.

"Crank Call, Crank call, Crank Call"

Or one of my favorites, hold on I'm about to go through a tunnel......click......

BOHICA. Another AA/AMR/APA screw job... especially for the former TWA types.

What do you care? You'll be a captain in MY beloved 717 before I get recalled! ;) TC

Yeah, I hope about this time next year. But you will get recalled at the SNB farm for the criminally greedy before me... if I even would want to go back to that poisonous atmosphere! Only with date of hire into the left seat of the 757, which I could hold with DOH if AMR/APA/ALPA hadn't screwed us, would I go back!

aa73,

Don't know your history, but I got my FE ticket on the 707 in '73 at the AA academy. You and the other SNB's have my job. ESADMF

My ex gettin recalled anytime soon?

God I hope they recall me soon.......so I can go on a military leave of absence for 5 years and retire from the AF.

I ain't goin' back until I'm on 5th year pay with a military retirement!

Seriously though, most of us military dudes are going to go on a leave of absence for as long as possible. See you at the flight academy in 2012!

No disrespect intended, but I recommend a fresh mindset near retirement. Don't be afraid to start over at another company if that makes the most sense.

Look forward, not back. I've got too many friends frozen like a deer in the headlights on furlough from AA or DAL. They don't want to send any apps out or interview again. I think they should.

This rumor is true!

I have been helping Gerard and the rest of the executive suite by personally calling furloughees.

My points of interest -

1. If recalled, what is your personal plan to enhance the disgracefully low executive compensation at AA?

2. How do you feel about adding the following duties to your job description:
- Picking up trash in the cabin
- Dumping the lavs
- Performing housekeeping duties at layover hotels
- Selling Tastefully Simple products in the airport between flights

3. Do you plan to lobby and petition the APA to press for a merger with Virgin America, in order to get Don Carty back in the AA executive suite?

Gerard and the rest of us executive types really need the boot-licking yes-voter types coming back on property. None of these troublemaking no-voter free thinkers. Hopefully, we'll have a good database when I'm done with my phone poll, so we know who to conveniently skip over.

Heya Frank, how ya been man?

1. I plan on donating any extra cash/stock options/bonuses straight to Mgt. After all, it's because of youse guys that we avoided BK, and I wouldn't want AA to lose any talent to the other airlines.

2. -Yes
-Absolutely
-No question
-I'm your man

3. A merger with Virgin, now that sounds downright Shagadelic. Staple us to the bottom of their list, Virgin needs to be Onatop.

Don't forget to call me to say Hi!
