So I guess ANY otherwise authorized weapon carrying officer will also no longer be allowed to carry on an airplane. And for that matter airport police will go back to the days of a billy club inside the secured area...... RIGHT....

Read the article closer your title is wrong! Funds are being re-allocated but the program is not ending!!!!

Have you ever heard of an "administrative end-run?" This is a textbook example. Ending the program would be politically unpopular. By 're-allocating' the funds that support the FFDO program he is putting a de facto end to the program without political consequences. This is Politics 101.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

The FFDO website has nothing up on this. I'll wait for their offical response before I start belly aching over a WT three paragraph report that has more holes in it than my underwear.

ALPA Says It's Not So...

Newsflash from ALPA International

TSA Reconfirms Commitment to FFDO Program
March 17, 2009

In stark contrast to an op-ed article in today’s edition (March 17, 2009) of the Washington Times, that claims “…President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology,” TSA officials reassured ALPA they are committed to the FFDO program and have plans for its expansion.
TSA’s leadership immediately contacted ALPA and requested a meeting to discuss this news report. ALPA representatives met with TSA executives this afternoon and were told that TSA embraces the FFDO program, that there are no plans to reduce or restrict its growth, and that the agency fully intends to grow and expand the program.

Government representatives acknowledged that the program needs additional funding to achieve these goals, and that they are actively pursuing sources of additional funding. These funds will be used to enhance the program’s management structure and oversight, which if implemented, will address an ALPA Board of Directors security priority.

TSA is currently training hundreds of pilots each year and plans to continue to train at least that number or more into the future. The size of the FFDO cadre has grown so large that additional resources are needed to provide greater structure and oversight to this important program, which TSA referred to today as “an important layer of defense.”

“ALPA is very pleased that the TSA was so proactive in communicating its concerns to the Association and we are likewise pleased that we are able to report this good news to the membership,” said ALPA President, Capt. John Prater. “ALPA values its relationship with the TSA, and it is obvious from the way the agency handled this event that the feeling is mutual.”

Its not his title. Its the Washington Times title.

The Washington Times (this is not the Washington Post) is nothing more than a political tabloid. They have a very loose editorial policy where they will publish just about anything if it suites their political agenda. Likewise, they will not publish the editorial authors names.

I also find it ironic that the gun loving, Obama hating right wingers now point the finger at Obama for a lack of support in this program when Bush tried like he** to keep it from ever becoming a reality in the first place.

The same could be said about any number of establishment papers. The New York Times comes to mind.

call it ironic all you want...we were bitchin and yelling then, and we are bitching and yelling now :D

Once Osama and has liberal lapdog eric holder are done trampling our second amendment rights, through the back door of course, by placing astronomical taxes ammunition and firearms, the FFDO program will be next. I'm sure it will be MUCH more diffcult to become an FFDO in the future. I would be suprised to see the most anti-gun/self defense administration in the history of the US expand on any program in which the government issues weapons.

Guess the only good news about obama and his policys is that he is spending his political capital faster than our tax dollars... At this rate, the republicans will take back congress in the mid terms, and obama is going to have a hard time getting re-elected.... Thank God.... Oh!.. Can i still say that, or has he gone after freedom of speech as well!

Since obama and his little possy seem to hate guns so much... he should have his secret service detail disarm....

So after 2 months of Obama, you're ready to write him off, but I guess the last 8 years were just peachy!?! Yeah, can't wait to go back.
(and for the record I did vote for W in 2000, but you can't fool me twice).
And as far as freedom of speech, how short is your memory again? We lost it after 9/11, nobody was allowed to say anything critical about the admn or the war.

You need to drop the ideology and make your decision on facts.
There's a simple rule: If someone has his mind made up before anything happens or has always voted for the same party, he's not a free man. He might think he's free, but he's controlled by a party machine.

I have to tell you, I voted for BO and am very much beginning to question my vote. I've always voted independent and consider my views a mixture of both parties' boilerplates. I have been displeased, disillusioned and downright disgusted (how's that for alliteration?!) with the bailout proceedings. The AIG thing is only a very small part of what has been the biggest reaming of the American public in history. I had hoped this administration was on a path to changing from a contribution/lobby controlled agenda. They are not, and while the views are different in nature, I expect absolutely the same government from the dems as we had the past eight years-just different issues but all based upon who has the cash, power and the best group on K street.

I will say this, had McCain come out and stated he was solidly opposed to the bailout in any form he would have had my vote in a heartbeat, but he didn't, and I was left with my third favorite dem to vote for. What a sh!t election.

Thanks for the rules to live by professor Tom!

I do not want to "wright obama off", I just think that the positions and policys that his administration is taking are 180 deg. of what this country needs... Hate to say it, but guess I agree with Rush... I DO want his policys to fail... for them to succeed would change the fabric of the US.

We lost it after 9/11, nobody was allowed to say anything critical about the admn or the war.
Wow- guess you missed all the protests and negative media Bush got over everything he did to try to keep this country safe.

I guess the last 8 years were just peachy!?! Yeah, can't wait to go back.
To be honest with you, they were not that bad, and I would gladly take that over the type of country that obama wants to "Change" us into!

Unfortunately, the fabric of the US was what allowed ENRON, AIG, Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac, CEO salaries to be 400%+ the nearest employee salary, etc. No, we don't need socialism, but rampant deregulation is no good either.

I have a brother in law who was arrested and detained several times for exercising his 'free speech rights' during those protests.

Well, let's see; Union contracts decimated, retirements destroyed, job layoffs, consumer spending power continues to decline, shall I go on?

But hey, at least we haven't been attacked by the boogie man again, right?

Peace.

You can't hang the AIG, Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae/mortage thing on Bush's head. It was policys that were put in place during the clinton admin that allowed people to get loans they had no hopes of repaying.... There were several pieces of legislation during the Bush admin that tried to change this, but could not get through congress. I am not pusing for no regulation, but put blame where blame is due! Bush just happened to be driving when the wheels came off.

Some how I think there is probably more to the story about your brother in law's arrest that just speaking his mind....

Union contracts decimated... don't know if I would quite say that... Some were hurt, and lost pay (I have many friends who took pay cuts and a couple on the street) but that is how this business works... there have always been ups and downs in this business... if you don't like it, get out of the private sector, and get a gov job... for less pay... forever... with risk comes reward.

retirements destroyed... Yes that is a very unfortunate thing, but think this is more the fault of the airline for not fufilling the promises it made in contracts... Kind of goes back to self-reliance... need to provide for your own retirement, not rely on others... (wonder who that sounds like)

But hey, at least we haven't been attacked by the boogie man again, right? This sir is where you step off the bus! So you really think it is just LUCK that there has not been another domestic terrior attack since 9/11!

You must be happy in fantasy land!!!

Have a nice day

I don't know what would make a plane safer. Guns in the cockpit or a plane full of post-9/11 New Yorkers. Even the water in the Hudson was like "f**k that."

Actually, the laws were initially changed during Reagan's tenure.

Sorry to disappoint, but that was all it was.

I don't mind the risk, but don't lie to me about needing 'concessions' (this is aimed at management, not you)

retirements destroyed... Yes that is a very unfortunate thing, but think this is more the fault of the airline for not fufilling the promises it made in contracts... Kind of goes back to self-reliance... need to provide for your own retirement, not rely on others... (wonder who that sounds like)

Again, rules and regulations concerning funding of pensions and the like were changed during Reagan's tenure...

Sir, if you really believe that these scumbags will not attack us when they are GOOD AND READY, then you sir are living in happy land. They have been sitting back and laughing their asses off at us as we have been economically self destructing for them for the last year. Bush's laize-faire approach to the nation's economy is doing what they want far more efficiently than they could do with violence and terrorist acts.

Peace.

I'm a gun toting liberal and proud of it. 8 years of our country being driven by a man who has made us more enemies than Obama ever will. Fix our own damn country and stay the hell out of others. Do you ever stop to think how amazing our childrens education could be if all the money we spent on the Iraq war was spent on education??? The Mid East has been a ticking time bomb ever since western society redrawing the borders after WWI. We need to stay the hell out of their business and mind our own. How many more failed invasions will it take for us to realize this? Lebanon, the 1st gulf war (thanks daddy bush you saved our country with this one), Iraq now. If you think we will fix those countries, pass me what you're smoking cause it must be some good stuff.

This is one of the more ignorant posts Ive seen in awhile on this board and its no wonder why we elected someone like Obama.

Rather than attacking the post as ignorant, why don't you give us your position and give us reasons why he is wrong?

It's fun to say someone else is ignorant, but without evidence you're just whistlin'.
