the question is not if...it's how much consolidation will take place. Doesn't anyone see these airlines are merging due to ECONOMIC pressures?? (oil, recession, etc...) it is something they have wanted to do and found the perfect excuse and time. The top execs will be swimming in $$$ for saving the company and then the slash and burn begins. CEOs are like politicians...of course they have to tell CVG and MEM politicians that they won't close the base...yet. if they really told them the truth this deal will never happen. IF the economy was ok I might buy that they are going to stay the same size and not give up market share...but that is not the case and anyone thinking otherwise is totally kidding themselves. USAir and America West did end up consolidating...they are not the same size they were individually. What helped was the economy was not royaly tanking when they did their merger.

Compass flying is replacing mainline flying, and we are representing them......

Eh, kinda. When you look at the routes we're getting, some are downsized mainline routes but a lot are upsized Pinnacle routes or new service. Our eventual 36 airplanes have the lift of about 20 DC-9-50s. Not quite the full-scale replacement of the 100-120 seat fleet that some imagine.

This is such an idiotic post, I am at a loss for words....

When you consider the idiot that posted it, it shouldn't be a surprise! Just look at his vast exprrience. 2000 hours over a 20 year career. WOW impressive!
He's a coffee getting pencil pushing biatch!

General Lee say Delta is buying NW >>????

I thought it was a merger and not a buyout??

But if it is a buy out, how in the world are you in BK and then next year you are buying a multi billion dollar business, after screwing all your employees?? WOW

And not everyone wants to work for DL,NW,AA,CAL,UAL
15-20 year F.O.--NO thank you !!

Friend was all excited flying the 767 out of JFK,,guess what he ended up doing ..3-4 legs up and down eastcoast...grass is greener ?

Don't know who your friend is but, there is NO domestic flying on the 767 in JFK. Not in the bid pack and not in open time. Just for variety I wish there was some though.

Reference merger or buyout. This will be a stock swap with no premium, I think you will find that is a merger.

I find it interesting that occam's razor (who does interviews) was on the forum not long ago today and responded to two other threads regarding NW but not this one.......

That's not "interesting". "Interesting" is trying to pass gas while you've got the runs.

THIS is intellectual economy.

I guess it is all perspective. I would rather be a 15 year F.O. flying a 767-400 to Hawaii than a 15 year Captain on the RJ. Each is own I guess.

More than 10%

Furloughs are a way of life in this business. Anyone who is on the bottom of any seniority list should have furlough plans; if you don't, you're in for quite a shock if it happens.
I'll keep my furlough plans in place until I've got 10% below me. And the post-911 downturn proved that you're still not safe with 10% below you.

I wouldn't decline a job due to worry about being furloughed, but I'd sure have an alternate plan. One where I put nonflying skills to use.
I would say you better have a plan even after you have 10% below you. I've had well over 10% below me at NWA twice and still got furloughed twice. ALWAYS have a backup plan.

I gotta agree with you on this one. I'll take my chances with a legacy. The idea of spending the rest of my career at a regional makes me want to stick a fork in my eye. But like you said, to each his own.

And you are forgetting that there are local politicians out there that will squash a deal if they even attempt to close a base in their local area. That is why Anderson had to assure Ohio Senators and Congressmen that he would NOT close the base. Had he not, they would have raised heck. The key to this merger is that most of NWA's route structure fits in with ours. The sum of the pieces is better than the original. We can attract more corporate customers with the whole world covered than slowly doing it ourselves. And, leaving hubs or abandoning them opens up opportunities for LCCs, which is something we would have done in the past and we can't afford to do now.

Bye Bye--General Lee

AA did the same thing with RDU, BNA, and STL. CEO's will say anything to get the deal done and then citing "ecomomic reasons" do what they damn well please.

Where is that at? I would say your either over exaggerating or being a drama queen. Being an FO at a Legacy beats the crap out of being anything at a regional IMHO.

Is he flying the 767 out of JFK? That would be the INTL ER category, and JFK does not do domestic legs. ATL ER does some during the Winter, but not JFK. He may have been thrown on some of those as a reserve, but he will be doing only Europe and Africa stuff this Summer.

Enjoy that RJ.

Bye Bye--General Lee
