Same argument could be made for the 80s. The DC-9s are paid for and generate revenue. There are zero plans to retire them as they are part of the NWA fleet plan for the next 5-10 years.
What about MEH? It's very likely they'd be folded into this mix as well although it may be a can that's kicked down the road.
Our MD88s actually carry 156 pax, and their lease payments went from $280,000 a month to $80,000 a month in BK. They are a lot newer than the DC9s, have less mx problems, and are more fuel efficient. I hope your DC9s do stick around in the event of a merger, but there should be fences around those too, just like your 744s and our 777s.
