I recently had a new hire FO from SkyWest who requested my jumpseat to SLC. I asked him about his views on the union drive. His response was that unions are basically useless and that SkyWest was doing better than most regionals without unions. After speaking to him for 15 minutes about how we need to unify all pilot groups as a collective whole, I realized that he did not care.

With that said, I just merely denied him his jumpseat on my plane. I will pick and choose who rides up front and if you dont have the decency to better the profession, I dont want you around my cockpit.

I know that the jumpseat should not be used for political purposes but i am frustrated to these new pilots that only think about themselves.

The jumpseat agreement was provided by ALPA and fought by ALPA. If you dont support that, you are no longer allowed in my plane.

and what airline do you fly for?

unions suck they do nothing, and let me guess you sir who denied the jumpseat are the reason our generation hates unions, you sir are the downfall of this profession, you sir are why i cant feed myself let alone my family.. btw what goes around comes around

I would have confined him to the jumpseat for the flight and schooled him.

However, it seemed that he didn't have the social grace to NOT offend someone in thier own house...

Should he have just made one opinion comment and keep the rest of his opinions nuetral? What is the topic was politics or religion? Looks like he wanted a ride and wanted to be offensive.

what do you do when someone offends you in your own house?

Seriously dude... I don't care how you what your stand is on a union. I'm not going to screw someone out of getting to work or getting home. You're a first class a$$.

I'll play that game with you. I don't jumpseat but i carry about 12 per week. I'll just say no. Have a nice day. Skywest is a pretty big company to mess with. Lot's of guys would be chewin you a new one if you don't change your attitude.

Yeah you are. You enjoyed your power trip so much that you had to share it with the forum.

I hope the SkyWest guy comes on and tells us who you work for. That is one real problem with unions. They use threats and fear as well as punishment to try and force people to join. I think you did a lot of damage to the union drive.

I hope some day you are on your way to a wedding that you cannot miss... and as luck would have it... the only seat available is the jumpseat... and the "new hire FO" has just upgraded... and he gets to decide if you get a ride or if your sorry butt gets left behind.

This is absurd..... there are many ALPA pilots who have done harm to the profession... should we deny them also? This is a slippery slope....

I don't think much of ALPA.... going to deny me the jumpseat? Think very carefully about your answer.... I give more jumpseats then I ask for......

Wholly $hit!

Are you telling me there will be some questionnaire when I come and ask for a ride? Will it be a questionnaire done by the Wilson polling center? It is only people who dislike ALPA or all unions?

You are part of the problem. Instead of educating people, you used the jumpseat as a political tool. Which makes you a first class a$$...

I have seen it time and time again. What goes around always comes around. I hope you regale us with the tale when it finally comes home to roost.

Wouldn't that make the "new hire FO" just as guilty as the original poster?

Does anyone want to discuss the "new hire FO's" behavior?

While I think the FO just have had more tact in the matter, you're dear sweet Pookie did ask for his opinion. If the guy would have walked up and started spouting off, then that's one thing, but Pookie said that he ASKED for the opinion.

You probably don't commute do you? So you are going to screw with something that does not even effect your life. I hope that FO contacts your jumpseat coordinator. You need a good talking to about how this childish act could hurt your fellow pilots.

this is funny in contrast to the UAL guy I had in mine last week who told my FO and I 'do yourselves a favor and vote NO to ALPA!'

I give guys/gals rides to get to work, home, to weddings, or wherever because it's the decent thing to do.

...and that's the end of it.

Exactly.... many ALPA folks are tired of ALPA.... are we going to get denied?

Either way this jumpseater won.
His answer pissed you off enough to the point where you probably bitch and complained the whole way home, stomped around in your high heals and then posted this on FI.com.

I don't care whether your pro/anti union. You are a tool.

He answered a question honestly..... are we supposed to lie to get on the jumpseat? If asked about my opinion, I will answer it honestly.... does that exempt me from the jumpseat.... be carefull about your answer....

Two things.

1) I believe pookie works at SKW????

2) Any chance he wrote this just to get a rise out of everybody????

1. Doesn't matter where he works.

2. I doubt it..... many union/ALPA diehards feel the same way.... However if you ask a question, be prepared for an honest answer..... I don't think lieing is a prerequisite for the jumpseat....

From what was said and w/o the FO's side of the story...I think the FO had zero social situational awareness...

After speaking to him for 15 minutes about how we need to unify all pilot groups as a collective whole, I realized that he did not care.

If you want a ride then just say... you've got some points on unions btw.... How about those Colo. Rockies? Or those Padre uniforms look like custard...

As I said....I would not have denied him... but if you want the j/s and the CA is wearing a 'W' button passionately, you don't tell him Hilary will save the world...

As usual... it takes two... let's not hang one guy

Does anyone remember a guaranteed J/S being part of that guarantee of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The only person that is guaranteed the J/S is an FAA inspector--it actually belongs to them. If someone offended me, I would deny him also. It would not make sense to have a hostile environment in the cockpit.

Perhaps Pookie should talk to BP about signing union cards to get into his jumpseat. As I recall, BP got a little time off.

I find it rather sad that someone would treat a fellow employee that way, but I'd be surprised if this even happened. Sounds like a lot of big talk to lick the asses of all the ALPA people on here.

Would it have been okay if Pookie had asked the guy what he thought about abortion, global warming, gay rights, or if he was a born again Christian and booted him off if he didn't like his answer? Grow up for crying out loud.

Yep, I would. Along with Dan Ford, Jesse Ashcraft, and the rest of the known RJDC supporters.

So I can deny those of you who think ALPA is great and wonderful? So I can deny those mainline pilots who think their scope policies are great... Slippery slope there Speedtape....

I don't think you ALPA true believers want to go down this road..... should we all issue a questionaire to each jumpseater?

If having a different opinion in your cockpit constitutes a "hostile environment", then I have to question your abilities.... I could function fine with you in the cockpit, and I don't agree with much of what you say.....

Fine, then I will deny you the jumpseat.... and anyone who thinks like you.... Let's see how long this lasts... Kinda stupid, but that is what jumpseat wars are.....
