Anyone know the pro's and con's of working for NJI or NJA. I dont know which one to apply for....scheduling,works hours, ect....

(i'm comparing the two together, what would you do if you had both offers? )

any insight will help..thanks inadvance

The following is written from the perspective of current NJI employee and referenced to a comparison to NJA. Keep in my mind that my knowledge of employment on the "A side" is minimal. NJA seems like an excellent employment opportunity and you need input from some of their pilots.

NJI positives:

1) Better starting pay.
2) Home basing
3) Positive and cooperative relationship between
employees and management and scheduling.

NJI negatives:

1) Lower pay over the long term (captain pay tops
out at a lower figure than NJA)
2) For those hired after November of 2005, NJA captains
making a lateral move from NJA to NJI displace
upgrade slots at the rate of 1 in 3.
3) Uncertain future regarding crew assignments if the
labor union representing NJA pilots achieves its
goal of winning a common carrier case against NJI
during their next contract settlement. Teamster's local 1108 claims that outcome is a slam dunk; the CEO of our common parent company has stated that he intends to keep the two divisions seperate and
has made costly concessions to do so in past
negotiations. An attorney aquaintence of mine commented that the union's common carrier case is a non-starter. Your guess is as good as mine.

Looking at both NJA and NJI before coming aboard two years ago, NJI looked like a better choice for me personally. I did not apply to NJA. I have not regreted my decision.

Oh i care why?

Sure its better than peanuts and crackers but thats not apples and oranges.

At least we still get to order what we want for international flights...

NJI working atmosphere, conditions, and culture is the best in the industry - but it is much harder to get in, however, because everyone knows this!

Waldom:

Teamster's local 1108 claims that outcome is a slam dunk;

1108 has not made that claim. If they have I'd like to see it.

They feel confident that we have a case, but aren't going into this with an overconfident attitude. Funny how your attorney friend says "non starter", but our attorney friend says "good shot". I guess we should let the lawyers do what they do best in this case.
