Anyone know the pro's and con's of working for NJI or NJA. I dont know which one to apply for....scheduling,works hours, ect....

(i'm comparing the two together, what would you do if you had both offers? )

any insight will help..thanks inadvance

The following is written from the perspective of current NJI employee and referenced to a comparison to NJA. Keep in my mind that my knowledge of employment on the "A side" is minimal. NJA seems like an excellent employment opportunity and you need input from some of their pilots.

NJI positives:

1) Better starting pay.
2) Home basing
3) Positive and cooperative relationship between
employees and management and scheduling.

NJI negatives:

1) Lower pay over the long term (captain pay tops
out at a lower figure than NJA)
2) For those hired after November of 2005, NJA captains
making a lateral move from NJA to NJI displace
upgrade slots at the rate of 1 in 3.
3) Uncertain future regarding crew assignments if the
labor union representing NJA pilots achieves its
goal of winning a common carrier case against NJI
during their next contract settlement. Teamster's local 1108 claims that outcome is a slam dunk; the CEO of our common parent company has stated that he intends to keep the two divisions seperate and
has made costly concessions to do so in past
negotiations. An attorney aquaintence of mine commented that the union's common carrier case is a non-starter. Your guess is as good as mine.

Looking at both NJA and NJI before coming aboard two years ago, NJI looked like a better choice for me personally. I did not apply to NJA. I have not regreted my decision.

They both have a crappy crew food program now. :)

Oh i care why?

Sure its better than peanuts and crackers but thats not apples and oranges.

At least we still get to order what we want for international flights...

NJI working atmosphere, conditions, and culture is the best in the industry - but it is much harder to get in, however, because everyone knows this!

Waldom:

Teamster's local 1108 claims that outcome is a slam dunk;

1108 has not made that claim. If they have I'd like to see it.

They feel confident that we have a case, but aren't going into this with an overconfident attitude. Funny how your attorney friend says "non starter", but our attorney friend says "good shot". I guess we should let the lawyers do what they do best in this case.

Squonk, I apologize for the exaggeration.

After the next NJA settlement, I forsee three possible outcomes as it affects me;

1) No change at all.
2) I'll be on this forum looking for gouge on the Beech Jet.
3) I'll be filling out the Mc Donald's application that I always carry in my briefcase.

Gulfstream flying yesterday's plane into tomorrow.... and eating last weeks catering today. :)

Sorry Waldom, sometimes it's hard to catch the exaggeration on the board. Just trying to convey that we are going forward with eyes open. Some on here think it is nothing more than a seat grab and I don't wont to fan the flames any more.

I hope it can happen with little or no hurt feelings on either side.

Waldom, By the way, the single carrier suit is going to be filed in 6 months. January of 2008, not during the next negotiations in 2010. Probably will still be in the courts by then though.

Are you sure about that? My understanding of the LOA was that the union agreed NOT to file the petition for three years from date of signing? That would make it November, 2008; not Jan.

All,

In the future NJA, NJI, and NJLA will be on the same sheet. Whether joined through single carrier or future bargaining, it will happen. The reality of the situation is QS is one company with multiple subsidiaries under the NetJets, Inc., umbrella/parent operating on independent air carrier certificates. While I would expect NJA, NJI, and NJLA to remain independent certificates, I fully expect one seniority list consolidated under on collective bargaining agreement.

The situation will be difficult, much like trying to put a broken marriage back together. We can either make it work, or self destruct. I would strongly suggest we make it work. It is in all our mutual interests to make it work.

The million dollar question is… will it be under the Teamsters umbrella, or Independent Pilots Union (ASAP)? It is time to move forward with mutual respect and our focus on the future. Word on the street is L-1108 and the IBT may have some differences to work out - pilots and the profession always come first.

Time will tell, but, I respectfully submit; it's not if, it's when and how.

Yeah. Like NJE and NJME.

Los Angeles is considered foreign territory ... right Grump?

To meet Southern California Air Quality Management Board restrictions and Noise Compliance Management ...

Special training is required to meet Single Engine Departures, approach and landing techniques for most SOCAL airports. This should half both noise and pollution.

V2 is your friend. This is why it has been difficult to fill the quotas for LAX domiciled crews.

Yes, I am positive about that. The LOA delayed the Single Carrier suit untill Jan 08. After that, open season.

NJLA could also mean Net Jets Lewiston Auburn.

We do have a large contingent of Mainers. :)

Not correct 750. It's right there in the contract on the 1108 website for all to read. It's item 7 in the Letter of Intent on page 219 of the contract. Three years from date of ratification which I recall was October 05.

October '08 filing; Spring '09 hearing. Summer '09 decision. Perhaps an appeal or two. Early '10 implementation if any change.

Like Annie said in Bull Durham, "you can look it up."

1108 will never file the petition! Why give up such an effective bargaining chip for a shot at single carrier? Better to trade NJI for something the members really want! Home basing?

That thought has crossed my mind as well. I've got my Snickers bars ready 'cause nuthin's gonna happen for a while.....
