Looks like the hardest working man at the ATN MEC got a seat at the big kids table. Congratulations to him, he will be missed!

There is no doubt he is an incredibly hard worker. He has devoted every hour to ALPA. I say this without sarcasm. I am a little stunned that after seeing the recently TA'd sections you are still supporting him. I respect that. I just don't understand it.

He worked hard to outsource 86 seat jets. He worked very hard to get a job at National. He worked the hardest to manage AirTran pilots expectations to well below Alaska payrates.

He did work hard, however the people that miss him will be a very small minority. AirTran has served its purpose for him.

If he really wanted to make a difference, he'd quit the Tranny prior to the merger and attempt to get hired at another ALPA carrier so he could serve out his elected term.

I understand and agree with some of your frustrations, I just don't direct it at the mentioned individual. He has become somewhat of a lighting rod because he is the only one that consistently and openly communicates his point of view with the pilot group. The other members of our MEC, LEC and Negotiating Committee are noticeably absent with information especially updates that may be considered controversial.

As for him going to Herndon, I think he deserves it more than anyone else at AirTran. We are in a much better place because of his hard work bringing ALPA here and for MEMRAT. Memories of the NPA and a time before MEMRAT seem to be long forgotten. My memory isn't that short,

Fire/Furlough, Circus Suspension, Hostages (RM, DL), Christmas Debacle, Numerous LOA's signed without the pilot group's knowledge, Union officer sexual harassment charge, Union Officers misappropriation of funds, Union President calling the cops on another Union Officer, Joke of Legal Counsel, Grievances ignored or trashed, TA1, TA2. The almost monthly recall of officers.

Those are just a few off the top of my head, you and others feel free to add some more..........

I don't want you to think I'm an ALPA Kool-Aid drinker but I truly believe we are in a better position with ALPA then without. I am still thankful for the person who made it happen.

Oh please....Oh please....Oh please let it be true!!!!!!

I thought the odds of getting a bigger sell out than Prater was slim to none. Then the storm clouds parted, and the executive management gods delivered Lee Moak on a silver platter.

I am giddy. I can't wait to have a pilot that knows how to "work with management." All of you pilots will soon be reaping the rewards of Lee's bargaining prowess. Might I suggest all of you flying a Boeing, Airbus or McDonnell Douglas product procure an RJ manual and start studying up?

The possibilities are endless! Besides "working with us" on RJ's, I'm sure Lee will come around to our way of thinking on a whole host of items like code sharing, cabotage, and taking full advantage of the new 9 hour flying limit.

Step right up folks, the concession stand is open for business!

Christ, this makes me want to giggle and cry at the same time. Frank, you miserable bastard, you just hit it out of the park again.

Moak. Good luck, Guys.

What's even more interesting than this is that the new 1VP wasn't running for any office when he was elected. It was as if he was simply picked out of a crowd.

Found on another board....
The one thing I will say is I will never, and I mean NEVER strive for an ALPA national position as what I witnessed today truly made me ashamed to be an ALPA Volunteer. To give you a glimpse of what a joke it was, an Alaska Airlines pilot was nominated a mere 5 minutes prior to voting for first VP and magically ended up getting 26,000 votes thanks to some backdoor deals with UAL & CAL MEC's (Jay Peirce from CAL only had 8,000 votes). What went down and what CAL's MEC did to Jay Peirce was a disgrace and I would be absolutely ashamed if I was a Continental Pilot. Also for what it's worth I, as well as the majority of this MEC, voted for Scott Stratton of FedEx, the guy is smart, has done a lot for FedEx and refused to make any backdoor deals while the other candidates were running around, and I mean literally running around the room trying to broker back door deals, it was embarrassing and disheartening to say the least. however how it went down was pretty ********************ty, the new 1st VP is an Alaskan guy who was nominated out of the blue minutes before the election, with UAL pilots continually trying to make motions for 1 hours recess so they could politic

Actually, Stratton cut the first deal with Pierce for CAL's vote That's what got Pierce into the race... but I digress.

I will place a preliminary vote in for Ken Watts for MEC Chairman.

The man is fair and knows how to create consensus.

He petitioned the ATN pilots for MEMRAT. Management hates MEMRAT. When they caught wind of his efforts to bring power to the pilots, the management tools brought him into the office and threatened his job...

I don't see ANY pilots, certianly the FI crowd, putting their job on the line for others.....

Not true. Stratton put politics over performance in my book. He also didn't have a firm grasp of the issues most pilot groups deal with. It's relatively easy to be a Chairman of an MEC when the airline is printing money, quite a different story to be an MEC Chairman when your airline has gone through bankruptcy, an 1113c, a hostile take over attempt and a merger.

Lee, who for the most part rarely left where his MEC was seated, refused several attempted deals by folks who walked up to the front of the room where he stood between ballots, each and every one of them, even when a couple of the larger MECs threatened late in the process to back Stratton, and put Stratton over the top if he didn't take their offer. Lee called several members of the DMEC together in the "great hall" at the time and explained the deal. The entire DMEC was then called into caucus in delegate committee one. LM stuck with his principles, walked in and said "get a bottle of water, take a pi$$, NO deals".

The attempted deal making was witnessed by the AE MEC, who then put on Lee Moak buttons. Funny how things work, several of the B MECs must have witnessed this as well, because even though the king makers threw their hefty weight behind Stratton when Lee stuck by his principles, Lee Moak picked up more votes in the next round then Stratton did. Principles over politics I guess.
