These facts illustrate the point that Southwest pilots relatively overpaid.

There are many ways to measure pay. One way is on a pilot by pilot basis. This is a mistake. A corporation does not care what each pilot makes, but what it costs to move the fleet. Southwest moves its fleet with significantly fewer pilots per airplane, flying more block hours per year, over multi year periods. This allow us to get paid more per pilot, while still giving the company an advantage over our competitors. The addition of a second airplane and taking on more pilots per airplane that we are currently using will erode that advantage.

Yes, our business is doing very well. My wife should get a lot of the credit.

He blocked just under 800. We don't get paid like the rest. Much different structure. There were more than a few F/O's who made north of $200k in 2010.

Is "very well" still the same as "way more than"?

Yup, I am a fly my line + a little kind of guy (12/14 days a month, all straight time).

Many of the FOs I fly with are making a lot more than I am by gaming the system (which is easy to do most of the year).

You AT guys are gonna like it here.....

It means "more than". And it comes with nice perks . . . and I don't mean standby travel.

I've been on Flightinfo since 1996. I didn't join because I have one "issue" unlike many others on here now. There are waaay too many guys on here talking smack about my AirTran brothers to just ignore.

You guys who suggest that I should be an FO since I own a business are pretty funny. . . . Didn't realize we had so many socialists in this industry. . . . :rolleyes: Maybe everyone with a military pension should stay FO . . . . Maybe guys who kept their first wife should stay FO's and make way for the guys who have ex-wives and child support payments. Maybe the guys with the messiest lives, biggest mortgages or worst credit scores should get preference at upgrade. :laugh:

Really, this is a great job, but if I could make that kind of scratch without having to step foot on an airplane, I would ditch this job and never look back.

I'd also not spend every waking moment on FI, regardless of my tenure here, but I guess I've got different priorities.

As far as the smack talk about your brethren goes, pot meet kettle.

You'll really love being a SW pilot on FI if you enjoy getting crapped on because of who signs your checks.

Oh, and I agree with you that seniority is king when it comes to upgrade. Those hired first, upgrade first. Simple!

Comments like that are exactly why I think this is going to arbitration. I guess we'll find out in a couple of months.

Not a single SWA pilot has ever by passed up-grade in the past ten years?
I understand they used to have to upgrade when their seniority number came around but every single person on the seniority list has upgraded as soon as their seniority could hold the seat?
 
I have to agree with Ty, just because he has a successful side business does not mean he should not be concerned about his seniority...
