This is why this Domicile system makes no sense.You cannot find enough pilots who LIVE in LAX, PBI, or TEB... or could afford to live in any one of those places if they we even willing to move.Of course one or two of the Earthmen who work at CMH say it makes sense because this is where a large portion of our trips originate.DUH... yes weathy folks can afford to live there.Why don't we move Bridgeway to NY or LA and see what you have to pay to get people to work in the Casino there? The cost of living is DOUBLE (at a minimum) compared to CMH.So you are forcing people to COMMUTE 5 hrs. Then after a 5 hr commute statistics show the longest duty day is your first day. Putting you in sleep deficit and fatigued for the remainder of the 7 day tour.

You hit my situation on the head exactly. The 5 hour drive on day one is a killer, even worse though is a late return to PBI as a flying crewmember. It's 2300 you just worked 13.5 are you driving home. Not me just another night on the road

During the summer months and sometimes during the winter I drive 5 hours on back country roads to my parents house. It can be brutal. I've only hit one deer.

My advice buy an XM radio and tune it to channel 202

ps the 25 gateways were created because the original couple were not attracting enough pilots.

The same thing is going to happen it just is going to take longer.

I prefer XM46, but you're right satellite radio is the only way to go.

When I used to commute (3 hours) I went to the local library and borrowed audio books (don't buy them, there $30+). Then I would rip them to my ipod and play those in the car. Anything to help pass the time.

I have a subscription to Audible.com. 2 Audio books a month for $19. Download them directly onto my TREO650 over the wireless internet.

Get a local library account with download-able audio books and use a program called Tunebite to get them on to your listening device. Very handy program to have if you want to remove some unwanted security features of audio files.

Gunfyter - Waiting for my Treo 700. Does your Treo have enough battery to listen to books? Also did you go Bluetooth with yours and who is your provider? My CP can't seem to find a BT that will work and he is switching to Sprint. I'm going to wait for the upgrades of the 700.

Battery is good on the TREO 650. Use Sprint.

Cracker Barrel has audio books on CD and tape (I think) that you can rent. A few years ago my wife and I did a long road trip. The audio books really make the time go by faster. When you finish a book just stop at the next Cracker Barrel and turn it in and get another one if you want.
