True, there is a great deal of non-constructive hurling of insults that goes on here. That's a given. I think that you need to take a good hard look at yourself, before you complain too loudly about others. As I recall, the first time our paths crossed, I'd posted an opinion you disagreed with and you were responding. As I remember, you started your post with "You're a F-ing a$$hole". I'm not particularly bothered by this sort of attack, but like most adults, I recognize that it does say a fair amount about the author. For an absolute fact, it does show your rant about how rude and insulting posters are to be nothing but sheer hypocracy. That wasn't an isolated incident, either. In other threads in which I've noticed your "contributions" you behaved, quite frankly, like a jerk. So, if you're genuinely concerned about the tone and atmosphere on this forum, you need work on your own behavior.

Yeah A-Squared, I remember that thread. To date, I'm yet to see anyone post another thread that was as far off base as what you posted. You caught me by suprise and I over-reacted.

Am I perfect? No. At times I over react to the insults that do get hurled, but it is a rare (if not a non existant case) were I insult anyone without someone starting it. The negative comments I made on this thread occurred after days of watching one-sided insults getting hurled.

Honsetly, I never cease to be amazed by the number of pilots who get all pumped up on themselves because they fly. To me it is an easy and enjoyable activity, no harder than driving a motorcycle and I certainly don't let it effect my ego. Some of the people on here act like everytime they takeoff and land they get smarter, bigger and stronger...if only it were so, they wouldn't insult other people so often.

What about all of your posts? You never come off as a jerk? ;)

Do you think you don't sound like a jerk because you have a thicker logbook then others?

Why not? Who cares if they don't approve of your accepted risk profile, your grammar or the after hours exploits with your bisexual wife. I'm sure I'm not the only one who could give a rats arse about that... your life, your decisions. I would like to hear about the flight though.

No, I proably use some harsh words on occasion when I could have taken a higher road. I do, however recognize this, and I don't post long dissertations about how others' are bringing the forum down.

That particular comment came after the second or third time that poster repeated once again a completely unrelated personal insult, rather than say something intelligent about the topic at hand. And while I probably could have used a less inflammatory choice of words, he had, in fact been talking out his a$$, then resorting to insults when he found that there was no way to intelligently back up his statement.

I don't think that you'll find too many instances of me playing the "I'm right because I have more hours" card, because I recognize that as a fallacious agrument. In fact I generally consider someone who says "I'm right because I have XX,XXX hours" to be a fool, and more often than not, someone resorts to an that sort of "logic" becuase they can't support thier position intelligently. I may on occasion make a reference to my experience, if it's specifically relevant to the topic at hand....say if we were discussing the operation of large radials, however I don't make my logbook my sole argument.

Having said that, there are times and topics where hours do make some difference. Sometimes a few thousand hours will give you a different perspective on something than you had at 200 hours (and I'm not picking on you, here), and in situations like that, the 4,000 hour pilot once had 200 hours, but the 200 hour pilot has never had 4,000 hours, and thus does not have as broad a perspective.

I totally agree with you on those points. I do respect a persons experience and acheivement. I have zero respect for those who try to use those same things as a basis for insulting others.

The NTSB site has nothing yet and the news report does not indicate anything that would support your silly statement...perhaps you would have liked to hang there in the trees for 50 hours and kept him company?
 
So NW_Pilot...are you going to make Hawaii or not? You don't have to talk about it, just yes or no, is the Hawaii flight still i the future?

Yes, When it's ready it's gonna get a 12 to 20 hour test flight before next attempt.

Special Airworhtiness Certificates do not allow additional people. Thus no CFI's.

A special airworthiness permit, or ferry permit, call be made to allow nearly anything, including the carriage of additional personnel as required crewmembers for the mission (such as carriage of an additional training pilot for an oceanic crossing), or even the use of nonrated pilots of single pilot operations in crewed aircraft.
