:) On the UAL ALPA board, seniority #7871, 2/21/00 hire, stated that he was offered recall to the 5 June class. 30 recalls; half airbus, half guppy, multiple domiciles. He said that he will bypass for now.

We are now over the halfway through the list of 2172 furloughees. It looks like the percentage of bypasses is increasing.

Nice to hear good news coming from UAL for a change. Now hurry up and recall my wife dammit! ;)

What was her hire date? I'll try to give you a ballpark estimate on when to expect a call and class date.

Mil Leave

Question for those of you fortunate enough to be near a recall...

Assuming you're making 2nd year pay when you were furloughed, if you accept recall and go on Mil Leave for 5 years, when you return will you do so at 2nd year pay or do you get longevity credit and come back at 7th year pay?

Does this change if you were on probation (1st year) pay? Thanks.

If you were on 2d year pay (I was) and take mil leave when recalled, your time on mil leave counts toward longevity credit. I will likely take 3 years of mil leave, returning at 5th year pay.
No changes for those on probation; they still get longevity. However, the rule for off of furlough is that you have to complete a year after training AND have (IIRC) 160 days of work at UAL. Those who take mil leave who were on probation will need to get the 160 work days completed prior to completing probation.
Also, you only accumulate longevity on mil leave for 6 years.

I'm wondering if these folks are holding out for a 757 bid? Everyone being recalled now has been on the street for over three years. By accepting a recall now on the narrowbody fleet, doesn't that lock them into that seat for 36 months?

Andy,

If they keep running the classes through the summer (they didn't last year) then maybe she'll get a letter in a month or two. She's inside of 100 now and very excited to go back.

That's one factor (holding out for a 75/767 bid).
Others want to have more seniority before returning.
Others have gone to Southwest/JetBlue/FedEx/UPS and don't plan on returning, but are taking the bypass to hedge their bets.
I'm sure that there are also other reasons.

As for the 36 month seat lock, I am not sure exactly how that will work. I've seen some who have been recalled get 75/767 vacancy bids. I thought that there was a minimum of 15 month seat lock in the LCO, but I've been wrong before.

I think that they've gotten to the point where they will need to run at least another class of 30 this summer; I'll speculate that there will be another June or July class.
They also increased the 1 May class by 10. The junior man (that I know of) in that class is #7794; it may be lower.
The flight ops page on Skynetlite has been updated and shows 30 recalls in June with the junior man recalled now #7886. That would indicate that they burned through 80+ numbers to get 30 seats filled. That is an increase in the bypass/LOA/mil leave percentages.
Your wife will definitely get a call for the next class; pls post when she gets the good news.

Here is a blurb from Steve Forte's (VP flt ops) weekly message:

"On the recall update, I am happy to announce that we have increased the pace of our 2006 pilot recalls. While we are sticking to our initial plan to bring back at least 300 pilots this year, we are now on track to have almost 300 trained and flying by mid-August.
We are increasing the size of our May 1 class by 10 to a total of 30 pilots, and have just mailed letters for another class of 30 to begin on June 5."

The June class will have a negative impact on summer flying since they won't be able to pull PIs out of TK this summer and have them fly the line. Given that, I think that they are starting to realize that they are getting critically short of crews and will continue to recall through the summer months.
The number of flights cancelled over the last couple of weeks due to lack of crews is going to be a picnic compared to this summer when you've got T-storms, irops, and less pilots willing to give up part of their summer for Jr/Sr manning.

Andy,

You da Man! Hey 2 questions if you have time.

1. I was a 7 May 01 hire (almost the last class). Any ball park guess on recall date?
2. I'm back on AD and plan to retire, but need to stretch 6.5 years from now. I believe we once discussed the 5 year rule went to 6 for Mil Leave. Just a re-check. Is that correct? I'm trying to line everything up. THX for all the info!
