So buy new planes just to sell airline????

INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Republic Airways Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:RJET - News) today announced it has confirmed its order with Airbus to purchase 60 A320neo (New Engine Option) and 20 A319neo aircraft. Republic had signed a letter of intent for the purchase in mid-June.

The aircraft, which will be powered by CFM’s LEAP-X engines, will be flown by Republic’s Frontier Airlines subsidiary. Frontier currently operates 59 Airbus A318, A319 and A320 aircraft.

“This order is a confirmation of our confidence that Airbus and the NEO aircraft will be significant contributors to the future growth of Frontier Airlines,” said Bryan Bedford, chairman, president and CEO of Republic Airways. “We see high fuel prices continuing, and these state-of-the-art, fuel-efficient aircraft will be a major factor in Frontier maintaining its position as an industry cost leader. They will allow Frontier to continue to offer travelers low fares despite persistently high fuel prices.”

“The neo is already proving to be the single-aisle aircraft for our industry’s future, and with this order, Republic has demonstrated its position as a forward-thinking organization that puts its passengers at the front of its buying criteria,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer. “Frontier joins a growing list of U.S. airlines that will soon experience the tangible benefits of the neo.”

Frontier flies to more than 75 destinations in the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica from its hubs at Denver International Airport, Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport and Kansas City International Airport.

Could be a tactic to improve the chances of someone buying them. All those orders could be attractive to somebody.

The Frontier employees took it up the butt in order to "Save the Animals" and this is the thanks they get?

Thanks Brian!

Dunno bout that. F9 is unprofitable and head to head with unical and luv in DEN. What does B6 have to gain by that other than a big headache dealing with FAPA? It would greatly increase their domestic route structure, which is severely lacking, but at what cost? Plus it would take some major tweaking b/c of what I said before, F9 is not profitable.

A F9 purchase would allow JB to unload its E190 and get back to a single fleet type over time....plus grow.

There you go.
